I’ve only noticed this...........

I haven’t hit/ bumped anything 🤷🏼‍♂️

No noticeable difference in driving. I have a multitude of questions, cause, proper repair, costs and is it safe to drive until I get it sorted?

The other side is fine

Pretty common. Though that looks like it's been welded / fixed before in some way and not very well. I had mine done and it didn't look anything like that.
Need a new bracket, new bolt, both available from BMW. Then just someone to weld it. Easy job for any garage that can weld though not sure if they can weld over that previous repair, not that I know anything about welding!

Cause is it's just not a great design, the new one is updated and beefier. I wouldn't go on any long drives if you can help it but the car's not going to disintegrate without it either. Cost all in probably £100-150 maybe. Think I paid around £100 a few years ago but obvs everything costs more these days.

As we discussed on the phone earlier [ref]jock156[/ref], you need to find a good welder.
Alternatively you could look for a strut brace that locates on the top mount bolts and also goes back to the bulkhead.
Might not actually cost much more in the long run?

Personally I wouldn't be driving it until you've sorted the issue. The fact it has cracked like that demonstrates the forces through it and now it's not connected, what route are those forces taking and where are they applying pressure to the next weak point.

Common on prefacelift- they changed the welds and materials at facelift. I had mine done under warranty at bmw

Taking it just up the road today, get it back tomorrow. Funnily enough the guy owns a 3L Z4
Great. Definitely get the other side double checked too.

I now have a 3.0 but my old 2.2 had this fault and I welded it myself and never had an issue thereafter. I reckon it's just a symptom of our dreadful third world roads and potholes.
