It came through Penrith today apart of the Carlisle to Blackpool stage 4. Two packs the first pick was the leader, then the second and third pic are the second group about 5 mins behind. It is a 20 zone and they flew through! Was really quite dangerous with all the team cars driving through narrow roads in the town centre with hundreds of people inches away! But Awesome, anyone know who these guys are?

First picture is not the overall race leader, but overall KOM in the green Skoda jersey, Kristian House, Rapha Conder team and former UK national road race champion.

A job to recognise riders wearing race capes covering up team strips.
A few SKY riders in their blue and back kits on second photo.
A job to spot race numbers fixed to underside of saddle. More info here:-

Nice pictures BTW, Tom.

Ye well he was the leader as they were coming through the town, group of 5/6 at the front about 5 mins ahead of the second pack. Thanks for the cyclist info, I love cycling but dont know much about the riders.

Cheers :)

.....well he was the leader as they were coming through the town,

I guessed that you meant that. It's always difficult to recognise riders when on bad days they wear these dark race capes obscuring their distinctive team jerseys. In the TDF the race organisers used to insist on clear capes on inclement days and it used to be far easier to recognise riders, 20 years or so ago, when they didn't have to wear hard shelled helmets.
The best place to get good photos or spectate is on a good stiff climb where the riders are going slower and are more spaced out.

On studying the second photo the first five riders are all in the Australian team, Orcia-GreenEDGE, so one of the riders would be the overall race leader on General Classification, Leigh Howard, and tactically they are being shadowed by the SKY team and you can just make out the white left shoulder of Mark Cavendish to the rear who would be wearing the rainbow stripes of the World Championship road race jersey.

Highlights of today's stage will be on ITV4 at 8pm this evening.

Ye they closed the road. 20mph limit and the cars were flying through must have hit at least 45 50 with a very narrow road. Cant believe they allowed it really!

Those team drivers are mad. There is a legal case brought by Jonny Hoogerland a Dutch rider pending over injuries caused in the TDF last year when he and a fellow rider leading a stage were hit by a car connected with the race and they were both catapulted in the air landing on a barbed wire fence sustaining very bad cuts. :x

But then its like the old group B rally... the spectators should be more careful! But competitors thats another story!! Awful

Ye got about 100 more but was pushed by the editor for a few pics so just quickly edited these ones will put a few more later

Loving that first pic

Kristian House is a hardman and always in the thick of the action. Retained his KOM jersey in today's stage.

Cav won the sprint in Blackpool and took the overall race leader's jersey on GC.
