Total BMW mag gives Z4MC a thumbs down!

I was shocked & disappointed that in this months copy they say that the Z4MC is the worst M car ever made!

Criticising the ride & its unpredictability, i was just thumbing through the mag in smiths this morning, i dont usually buy the mag & i can see why now!

The Z4M certainly gives people mixed feelings about it, i love mine & its entertaining & can be a challenge but thats what i want from a drivers car, i am not bothered about a motor you just jump in & drive ive got my 5 series for that.

Why does the Z4M generate such opinion? & not always good! :o

I think clarkson gave a similar review back in the day... That the MC wasnt very good.

By contrast he liked the MR :fuelfire:

Maybe they're not driving gods like me, and thus can't appreciate the out & out balls it takes to drive one properly :driving:

Or maybe they're claustrophobic :P

It is Total BMW though, so if there's not lots of tacky modding bits available then they probably don't want to know.

It is a bit of a marmite car though, as it's not as comfy/practical as an M5/M3, but then it's a better/faster car on track than either, and won't need new tyres every 3 laps from sliding around every corner. It also has the 'benefit' of not having 4/5 seats and thus is relegated from 'posh taxi' duties.

I've tried the new eras of M's (i.e. e46/e39, e9x/e6x) and I can't say their a better driver's car than the older ones (e30/e28, e36/e34), but they're definitely more comfortable & faster in a straight line. If that's what you want, then the new ones are for you, but then why not save £30k and get a 550 M-Sport or 335i M-Sport.

I like your wheels aguazi  yours is the same colour combo as mine but your wheels make my standard rims look a little sorry for themselves!

Glad clarkson liked the Z4MR then although his opinion can be questionable at times! :)

Nice post!

Editorial equivalent of Banzai/MaxPower/TheLady magazine reviewing.
Personally wouldn't pay too much attention to the screw-on-exhaust-tip brigade.

They dn't like anything on Top Gear that threatens porkers , so beemer sports cars and tvr's get short shrift , any excuse to pan them !

Surely even an idiot would rate the x6m and x5m below the z4m, even if it is a coupe.

It's very strange.

Who cares? Nipped out in mine to take the g/f home (5 mins, 2 miles) and ended up doing 11 miles instead. Always the same!! :driving:
Exactly! most journos only get to experience cars for a short while so they dont get chance to know a car, i will certainly be sticking with mine its just too much fun to change it!

As previous poster said it is incredible that they rate the X5M/X6M higher!! :headbang:

There's a similar anti Z4MC thread on PisHeads, but none of this nonsense diminishes my Z4MC enthusiasm one iota. It's a great car and, as a long-time BMW owner (including an E46 M3), I can say categorically it's one the best cars BMW has ever built. But the Z4MC stirs controvery among BMW owners and non-owners alike because it represents a potential paradigm shift: That is, it demonstrates the company's ability to step outside its traditional "sports sedan" niche and build a stylish, affordable and competitive, hard-core sports car. As such, the car effectively challenges the pro-porker European Sports Car Establishment, attracting all manner of criticism from those would would nip this transgression in the bud.

A very well put post thanks  & a gorgeous Zed you have aswell, enjoy it :)

I recall lots of debate in the PH thread started by Chris Harris, For the most part it was a lot of the "E46 is better why bother blah blah"

What was interesting was the response. Not a good looking car? Are you effin' blind? :) etc etc. The funniest reply was one based on the Jason Plato video. er he loved it! So either the haters saw a different video or as usual, the forum experts have never driven it but are all experts. (A little like me slating a 997 Gen 1 GT3 based on "everyone said the Gen 2 was much better")

JC did indeed dislike the Z4MR the hamster loved it.

Bottom line is, after a Z4MR \ Z4MC where on earth do you go next? Now thats the sign of a great car :driving:
