Andy, I have an Orbitsound sound bar and I connect it direct to the TV via an optical cable and not to my satellite box. Also you need to mute the sound on your TV.
Thanks for the advice mate.

Thanks-but the end shape does not look like it will fit anywhere?
The optical/digital audio socket has a little flap on it mate don't worry it will fit :)
I didn't notice the flap

I don't know if the optical sockets are all the same but on mine it only plugged in one way and you have to push the flap out the way and insert it.

Have to say its made a big difference to the crappy tv speakers, well worth it.

Thanks- did you go for an Amazon one?

I ordered directly from Bose Andy. I shan't be ordering any electrical items or similar from Amazon again as you need to be careful. I ordered what I thought was a brand new HTC One however it had been tampered with and was in a resealed box. Also when I tried to do software updates via HTC it wouldn't do it as it said the phones software wasn't legit. Sent it back and ordered directly from HTC. I don't trust Amazon to be honest or their suppliers.

Tim, bet your butt hole felt a bit looser after getting an optical cable from BOSE.

overpriced.com

It came with the Bose Solo for free

To be honest it is a tad pricey compared to the LG Soundplate and the Denon and Yamaha I looked at, and it doesn't have blutooth for streaming music but the others are massive in comparison, the Bose is pretty compact but I think it sounds superb so well pleased with it. I like Bose stuff and looking to get the Soundlink for my phone. I didn't look at the Toshiba soundbar though.

er, whats a sound bar?

A long, thin, speaker system :)

so why is it not just called a speaker  :poke:

To cater for the failing literacy of the 21st century - a speaker doesn't actually speak, whereas a sound bar is actually a bar that makes sound. Seems you have to speak in pictures nowadays  :D :P

Soundbars are cheap compact solutions for those without much av knowledge.

personally I prefer satelite speakers with amp and sub.. much more expansion possibilities but prohibitively expensive for some with the proper kit starting around £500-600 for something sounding good

onkyo make nice 2.1 system with a sub built in the amp though which is around £200-250
