Torque wrench

I’m looking to do the vanos and eventually the rod bearings on my MR, can you guys advise on a good quality torque wrench for the job?

Teng make a range of torque wrench’s that are reasonable quality , not obscure Amazon products…I have three of them in different torque ranges FWIW…they come with calibration certificates…

You would need two to cover that range I would imagine. Can’t remember the make I bought the two off top of my head but make sure they have a calibration cert

Thanks PVR, I was thinking I’d need two to cover the different ranges

Thanks B21 - I was thinking something a little bit more accurate than a Halfords special would be needed.

If you are going to do those jobs yourself you will also need a good quality angle gauge, almost all the crucial bolt torques on your engine will have a torque angle in addition to the lb ft.

Halfords torque wrenches are made by norbar, not sure if they still do but the one I bought 10 years ago came with a calibration certificate too

I have a couple of the Halfords ones, both came with calibration certificates, had them a while now and not really used either of them, but you never know when you will, always a good excuse for buying man tools :D

My comments weren’t aimed at the Halfords tools I can’t really comment..my comments were aimed at the No name products you see on Amazon / eBay…they may be ok

Teng is a mid tier supplier, IMHO, not up with Snap On etc but better than no name Chineseum…

As others have said you may need a torque plus number of degrees of turn for stretch type bolts..beyond my pay grade there..

Wouldn’t think VANOS bolts fall into that camp..but again beyond my pay grade..

Good luck and let us know how you get on

I wouldn't 'dis' the Halfords tools.
Despite the regular trolling, they actually sell some really good stuff, particularly the Professional range

Thanks guys for all the helpful comments- I had thought an ability to confirm the angle is needed.

Finally, ref Halfords tools, it was a generic comment. I actually think Halfords tools are extremely good having used them for years.

I just checked my Teng torque wrenches they have an angular measure built in..FWIW
