topping up oil

Great write up on how it all works I assume the N20 etc is broadly similar design? I see my wife's Mini BMW B47 has a different interface that measures the oil level whilst parked, engine running over a 1 minute ish period..

Why the hell did they get rid of the dip stick? How hard is it to lift the bonnet, dip the oil and you get to check other fluids while you are under the bonnet.
Glad my car has a dip stick.
