TopGear..........

Dunno about you but on the 2nd run with the sooped up electric car did you think the mustang was going flat out? Seemed a bit engineered for television how both cars were side by side

The noise on the tunnel runs in europe was the best for me, I drove those roads last year in my nissan 200sx and was grinning like an idiot by the end of it - the noise really reverberates around and the turbo induction noise was rather mean sounding  - can't wait to try it in the Z4 and to revisit the stelvio & bernina passes :driving: Napoleons route is also a must!

For sure - the drag race would be messed around for TV, however with an F3 axle fitted and enough power electric could see off petrol in that sort of race.

Noise in tunnels is something that we share then. I take my Jeeps around Europe and it's pure joy to hear a dozen Jeeps (mine with Chevy V8) putting the power down in the big one like between France and Spain.... :D :D

2 yeara ago I organised an event that was partly run underground in France in the 'Cinq Pillars', basically an underground limestone quarry/cave complex. Reverberations in there were deafening and combined with driving underground is something else. Amazing...
(This photo is deceptive as there were few areas high or wide enough to get out and photograph. Pitch black, rock crawling to do and 20' drops to watch out for....)

I have dnloaded the last two years of TopGear. God they are funny. After I started watch from the beginning of last year, I finally have gotten to the review of the Z4M. They called it a big hairy beast.

I agree... :driving: and so much fun.....

Have you seen the news? NBC is going to make an US version of Top Gear called "Gear"

From the Final Gear Website:

Posted January 15th, 2008 at 22:48 GMT by Viper007Bond in Top Gear America
NBC has ordered a pilot for “Gear”, an American version of Top Gear, that will be officially announced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit (January 19-27).

The pilot will be filmed at a secret location around Los Angeles equipped with a race track and hangar where the show will be filmed in front of a audience.

NBC reality chief Craig Plestis said the network already is getting numerous inquiries from car companies that had heard rumblings about a U.S. remake.

“This is a favorite of all automobile companies as it shows their cars in such a great light,” he said.

NBC reality chief Craig Plestis said he is a longtime fan of “Top Gear.”

“It all comes down to subject matter — it’s a cool show about cars,” he said. “It’s very compelling for us because we have a great platform and space on the network to have such a show.”

Among “Gear’s” popular segments that will be replicated in the U.S. are races where the hosts have to reach a destination using different modes of transportation, road tests, challenges like converting and refurbishing existing cars into anything from a stretch limo to an amphibian and celebrities racing a midsize car. (”American Idol’s” Simon Cowell holds the record for fastest lap time with a Chevrolet Lacetti.)

The series will premiere at 11 p.m. on March 4th before moving to its regular time period at 10 p.m. March 11th.

Who would have ever thought the writer strike could possibly be a good thing?

Discussion is taking place on our forums if you’d like to weigh in and predict how good (or bad) the show will be.

Clarkson is a tool.

One of the very reasons I watch the show. He makes me laugh....

NBC will never do as good a job as the BBC with their version of TG. The BBC being "free of commercial influences" means they can tell it like it is without worrying if they will lose a sponsor. When they showed TG briefly on Discovery it was rather bland as all the good parts were re-recorded....

Clarkson is a tool. I hit the mute button when he is on.

Totally agree, but that along with the others 2 of Hammond and May, that are his equals in that department, and their inane antics, races, bizarre stunts and unscientific testing of cars is what makes the show one of the most watched TV programmes.

I also echo the comments that for a variety of reasons the show will probably not translate well to the US. Programmes rarely seem as good once exported.

Top Gear = Hilarious, inventive, absurd - for several years running, THE most entertaining show on television that has anything to do with automobiles

Fifth Gear = Better drivers, more serious presentation that still manages to be fun BUT, to me, it's only worth watching to see what Tiff can do with a car that I will never be able to afford - he is amazing and belongs on a better show

Top Gear NBC = Teh suck (probably) - of course, I was convinced that The Office would never work on an America network and I was very wrong about that - it's one of NBC's better shows

In order for NBC to get it right, they'll really have to concentrate on having the proper hosts/journalists to liven up the show. I hope it won't turn into a "Jackass" style show.

IMHO, you can't match the real Top Gear... but then again, NBC will probably have a higher budget for the show, so expect more glamour.
