TOp would not retract

I brought my car to the dealer last Friday. They said that they tested it and the motor is "drawing excessive current". They sent me on my way with a promise that the parts (motor and cable assembly) would be there by next wednesday and that they would fix the car then. They need ithe car for the entire day.

I'm on a business trip to Califonia this week, so I'm set for a repair first thing Monday 10/6. I need to get my topless rides in while the weather holds :)

I asked if the motor failure was related to clogged drain holes, but in typical dealer fashion I got the minimum of facts necessary to convey the message.

Success! After two and a half days at the dealer, I have the car back and the top is working better than it has since I got the car.

The original estimate was to have the car back the first day (Monday). At 4:30 that day I got a call that they needed to order some clamps for the lines entering the motor because the motor didn't come with them, even though it was supposed to. The new estimate was for Tuseday mid day. End of day Tuesday I got a call that they parts had come in, but the top wasn't seating properly on the windscreen so it would have to be removed again and re-installed. Yesterday (Wednesday) I picked the car up mid afternoon and the explanation was that a cable was misrouted and was keeping the top from closing all the way. I tested the operation of it before signing and papers and it went up and down likely lightning... very fast and actually contacts the windscreen more uniformly before the hooks clamp it in place.

On a side note there were now some light scratches on my boot lid, so I had to get them to run the buffer over it, but I knew they were polish right out. I don't understand why they don't look for things like this before delivering the car to the customer.

The net result was a repair that took 2.5 days and included a loaner car that BMW/the dealer had to pay for. Not a cheap repair. I'm glad that I have a year of factory warranty and then 2 more years of CPO warranty left on this car.

Great news, nice one!!!!!
2.5 days isn't so bad, mine was in for more than two weeks in the end... mainly 'cos they had to order in a roof frame and new roof on back order - the frame had twisted as well as everything else!!
Mine was under warranty, like yours; would have been ridiculous cash otherwise. Hydraulic pump, electric motor, new drainage channel parts, roof, roof frame...
My loaner was paid for by BMW as well. Now I rop the roof as often as I can - even though it's cold and dark by the time I leave work, I just switch on the lecky seat. :driving:
Enjoy the sunshine
