This is what presses on a small metal lever that operates the micro switch. You should be able to see this when the shelf is in the up position. You can use a pen or small screwdriver to press on the lever and you should hear the micro switch click. If you're careful you can hear it as you move the shelf.
The click doesn't prove the switch is ok, but it's a reasonable indicator. The only way to tell for sure is to put a multimeter across the switch and test it properly
