Top up oil question?

Hi all,

My recently acquired zed 3.0si has had a recent oil change but I just think I should carry a can of oil to top up if it ever asks for any as I assume that it will ask for a top up at some stage!

do they use much oil mine is a 2007 model?

So what oil do I need to buy as I have no idea what they put in at the BMW main dealer when they service it.

o 40w fully synthetic... you shouldn't need to carry any as the electronic dash light will tell you when it needs a top up. not to be confused with the engine has no oil light..... i assume that you have the oil level indicator and not a dip stick

Err I have no idea if I have a dipstick or not but mine is the face lift 2007 model and I think I am right in thinking they don't have a dipstick, I can't believe I haven't looked :oops:

I wonder how I would see the level on the dash or don't you see the level until it needs a top up?

what make of oil is the best one to buy as I know there are many out there.

on the dash should have two buttons one to reset the milometer and the other (has a little oil symbol), press that and it will check the oil and record the level for you, it has 4 bars each bar is approx 250ml .... sorry dont have any pics.... i got my oil from the dealer think it was shell

Wow thanks for that I just checked it but it didn't show 4 bars it just said oil ok :)

Andy, best to do it when the engine is warm and running, you can do it while driving along, ok means its errrrr ok with no need to top up, best to try when warm and running though
