Top speed runs

I have always wanted to test the Z4 and see how fast it can go/I dare take it. We had previously planned to drive to Germany for the Autobahns but Covid quickly said no to that

I am now in a position where I'll likely be selling the car next year for "something more practical" . Does anyone know of a suitable place within the UK that organises events/days that allows individuals to take their car for a top speed run?

I'm not wanting track days, laps or 1/4mile drag races etc., purely a long straight to legally see what it can do.

I am unlikely to own a similar, reasonably powered car for a good few years now, so I'd regret not scratching this itch

Thanks

Used to be regular events at Bruntingthorm airfield. I attended one in a Ruf 911 many moons ago. Not sure if they still occur. Piston heads may be the place. The VMax threads, is where they used to be discussed.

Edit: I can't find any events since 2019. :(

The 15-20 miles heading south from the M42 onto M40 between 1am - 4am will easily see your M54 reach its capacity , , , though you will most likely be passed by multiple Sprinter , Vivaro or Transit van in the time it takes you to reach it :P

When you do, maybe delete this thread? Might not help your sale price, otherwise IMHO. :P :D

I think straightliners are one of the only groups left doing this - https://straightliners.events/

Now that’s interesting :D

Checked out your link ad there’s an event in Campbeltown in June, one of the longest runways in Europe, if not the world. Was on as a possible location for space tourism due to length and quality of the runway :driving:

Of corse, OP could just visit remote Scotland generally for initial query

Then they realised they need fairly good weather to launch, so binned the idea? :poke: :P

I think they were more worried about hideously misshapen aliens landing and blending in with the locals mate.

Not going to disagree, we don’t have season’s or weather forecasts here. We just get up and look out the window :P

Totally agree with you bud as you’re more local to Edinburgh than I am to Campbeltown :poke:

I could do the warm up preparation run for it and lead the same section as recently down to the location  :tumbleweed: :driving:

M40 is a good motorway for pressing on. however, nothing beats the M45 heading east. mainly cos once you're on it, you're committed for another 9 miles down the M1 before you can turn round, which puts any traffic patrols off... and its very lightly used as all traffic goes on the M6.

The weather and the locals must be why they choose Cornwall instead. :D
