Top Speed in Each Gear

Does anyone know what speed can be reached in each gear of an e86 coupé (manual, non-m)?

I've not tried to find out but interested to know what the answer is!

Have a look online for the ratios, I found them and with a little maths you can calculate it. You need your final drive ratio - got mine from RealOEM.

That's OK for a theoretical speed, but doesn't take into account wind resistance or the limiter. Coupe has a cd of 0.35 and a frontal area of almost 2m sq so in the higher gears it's arguable if it will never be achieved.

That said here's some theoretical I borrowed off t'internet
These speeds are for a z4 3.0 manual with the 3.07 (standard) ratio if you shift at 6k rpm. Multiply each speed by 7/6 if you want to find the 7k rpm speeds.

1st- 30
2nd- 60
3rd- 90
4th- 120
5th- 150
6th- 180 *assuming that engine was powerful enough and the limiter was turned off...)

Has the si engine got longer gearing? I'm pretty sure mine did over 60 in second and felt like it would go faster than 150 in 5th?

3.0si manual final drive is 3.46. 60 is achievable in 2nd but you'll be way into the realms of the soft limiter, so I'm a standard car your better off shifting into 3rd at 6.5k ish which equated roughly to 55mph ish from memory....

Interesting.

Thanks all

I can cruise in 6th at just over 30, so 6th gear has a huge potential reach!

Yes, huge range of possibilities!

Once upon a time somewhere a long way from the UK when I was in a hurry I hit the rev limiter in 3rd at about 95mph! (And it was fantastic :P ).

But from what I have read 6th has the 155 mph limiter (but if you can get to over 155 mph in 5th that isn't limited).
