My 03 had an problem with the top going down smoothly. The diagnosis and remedy was to replace a micro switch. The shop charged 4.5 hours to do the work. Was I had?

If it is the boot switch, I am surprised as that is a couple of pounds part. However, the boot switch makes it either work or not so I doubt it was as simple as that one.

A competent repair shop could pull the whole top and replacement the motor in 4.5 hours. I did it myself, first time ever, in about 5.5 hours. Could it be a different microswitch? I know the boot switch is difficult to see/get to but 4.5 hours is way excessive IMHO. :o

Does the 4.5 hours include the time taken to diagnose the fault (in which case it could be reasonable), or just to replace the switch?

Does your invoice list the part number for the switch, that may give more of an idea how competitive the price was, but at least it's working now ready for the sunny weather....

I would have a discussion to establish what work was undertaken. 4.5 does seem a little excessive

In answer to your question, yes it did include time to diagnose. The shop indicated that was the problem. I scanner did not show the problem properly. It doesn't matter as the problem got worse. The top now bounces like a basketball for the last 1/3 of the retract. Back it goes. I am stuck with this shop for top work because they installed the top motor and rams which are still covered by warranty.
