Top Motor question - before I start ripping things apart..

So I had to cycle the top a few times and refill the cap many, many times but she's a workin now! Works great! Look like I do have a leak though and luckily it was easy to spot and will be very easy to fix. When putting the top up, the white cap spits some fluid out the top. Not a lot but enough that over time I can see why this thing was so low on fluid. The O-Ring on the grub screw has had it. So I'm just going to source a new O-ring and it will be 100% done. I hope that's the only leak. I had to put in just over a cup of fluid all said and done.
Also, when closing the roof, it smacks down onthe windshield with some authority, is that normal?

The o rings on the grub screws do go over time and especially if they are over tightened, which people do tend to do, they just need to be nipped up, not torqued down 
. If when operating the roof you are seeing the fluid returning to the resoviour and its spitting, this is an indication that air is also returning down the lines with the fluid. Now that could be because its still got air in it, or being as its a sealed system and shouldn't have air in it !, that you have a small leak somewhere.
If the roof has had the pump disconnected for some time with the roof in the up position, its possible that the fluid that was in the lines has drained out meaning the lines are emptied of the fluid that was in there. However this can simply be overcome by cycling the roof up and down{engine running }a number of times, topping up the fluid as it finds its own level as the air is expelled, until the spitting fluid return stops.
If on the other hand after cycling it many times it still spits and the level constantly needs topping up, i would suggest a leak. Normally this is one of the Hydraulic lines pinched near the folding mechanism ,{they are steel lined but can be damaged}, or a line is not seated correctly in into one of the rams{ you were pulling stuff around to get the motor out and could have dislodged one or damaged a line }or more likely the copper washers on the pipe/pump joints are not sealing correctly, either not tight enough or the washers need replacing as they compress slightly to form a seal and could have reached there compression limit....... or if your really unlucky one of the rams has perished and has a pin hole in the casing. This normally happens if the ram has been sitting in water, which it does if the drain holes get blocked and the drain sink is unable to drain but instead holds water which sits around the ram, result ....over time the ram rusts and perishes
