It looks like it fits nice and flush in the pics but just want to confirm this?

Thanks

Mine is perfect. It works nearly 3 years. No any problems. No any noise or unsteadiness when driving. I also upgrade the screen on Septemer 2013 for bluetooth music ,the new generation high quality screen and the driving recorder and the original sound music play(ten big than mp3).
you can find your own way to install it. The original part is a little thick and a little crooked.I do the "knife works" myself first and find professinal technicist to help me with the other part.
you can try if you are good at diy and enjoy it.(Need time and patience).:)

So are you saying that the OEM X3 screen is thick and crooked and that the aftermarket screen fits better? If that's the case then I will have to go with the Z4 screen for the android system option. The reason I ask is that plenty of X3 faulty screens come available and not many Z4 screens and the price can be double for the Z4 screen.

Cheers

The Electronic products update fast and have more function of the attractive. And I can't find oem screen with so many functions. Z4 is less as you know. The aftermarket factory would not make mould for z4.

Never saw this thread before... looks very interesting indeed!
Why did I look, why did I look!?

I would have the balls to start cutting away but I'm a novice in electrics, not really clear how you exactly connect it? Do you have any pictures of how you connected it to the radio?

Is the display motorised?
And would it be possible to switch the housing to oe one from z4 instead of sticking with a bigger one from x3?

I wouldn't think so as there are a number of buttons in front of the display

Another question: can you update the software/maps when they are outdated?

1.Map SD card is in right side of the main screen.I used three kinds of maps and a traffic probe early warning system. Usb storage is in cord net. It is used for driving recorder , loseless music and HD movies.

2.The backboard of the bmw radio have a main plug socket A and it connected with plug B (with many wire). Your job is just seperate B from A and put new one E to A and put B to E.(it is particular for bmw and it would be good match )

3.I think it is one-top solution for the e85 which have no nav.The screen has more" HD" and brightness than the BMW oem. It gives me more enjoyment than the car itself :D . It is erected depend on damping force and has no motor. That is the only regret.

The host and screen are one,,,

Interested in this as well.

I was originally thinking I would like to retrofit my existing NAV with a better screen and make it stand alone. i'd like it at a minimum to have NAV and music. Movies/TV not so much of a priority for me. A camera/video recorder would also be necessary. Take the sound portion out into an AUX input on an aftermarket deck. My biggest concern was to not destroy the existing OEM pop up NAV so it can be put back. That would mean somehow coming up with a way to build a custom housing for a screen. That's where I'm at........... stuck there. I have the skills to build it. Just not sure about the parts to go with for the stand alone screen and brains. I'm sure someone has done it before. I just need to find it. Right now my Z4 is 1/2 gutted out so installing this not to much of a problem.
