Latch motor drive axle shafts are broken. Previous owner tried opening top manually turning tool in wrong direction until shafts broke. Is it possible to remove latching motor and replace the axle shafts thru the access panel? Any suggestions/help greatly appreciated!

Solved. Got no replies so tried it. Wasn't easy by any means. Trail and error. 45 minutes and motor removed and both left and right "axles" replaced. Top works perfectly

I have a similar problem but my shafts survived at the expense of the nylon gear. The latch is stuck closed and I can't turn it with the shaft and I don't know how much force I can apply without breaking the shaft.

As your gear is bust, looks like you will need to undo the motor and move it about to disconnect the drive shafts. If you can manage that maybe you can find something to put in the end of the shaft and turn them by hand to get them to release or get a molegrip on their ends ant get them turning. Reckon they will have less resistance to turning if disconnected from the gearbox.
