'bassy rumble from the exhausts' - nope, tinny rasp.
'slithering around in a car that let's you take enormous liberties...' - erm, no it doesn't
'the car that never snaps that extra 10 degrees' - erm, yes it does!
If you want a more accurate review of the handling traits, harris' review around time of launch is more representative - spiky, unresolved, tendency to push into understeer, and when applying the throttle it turns into very snappy oversteer!

If nothing else, it's good to read a positive review.
I think the Z4M is a bit like the Honda S2000, often did not get a good review, but most owners loved them.
Car reviewers never seem to like anything remotely edgy. If it can't be flung round a track with complete abandon for a couple of hours before being handed back, it's no good.

Quite interesting isn't it - generally speaking it's the cars that are somehow flawed that enjoy a lot more popularity than those which are supremely capable, even though the flawed cars generally get a bit of a kicking from road-tests/ reviews at time of launch.
Simple old soul as I am, I'd far rather drive something that's a challenge and makes you really work for the performance, rather than something that just dishes it up for you and continuously sorts it out in the background when you get it wrong. That's just me though - hence, although I think that top gear article above is wrong, I'm not putting a downer on the Z4MC, quite the reverse, I think the flaws add to the charm, and the enjoyment of the drive to a degree

It's interesting to see that in 2022 they seem to like the simplicity of the M.
But then again I found a review Hammond did back in 2009 and he liked exactly the same things about the MR.

I'm simple (and much older than Ed) and grew up with cars that required you to put in some effort to go fast, which is probably why I like mine so much.
