Was an interesting conversation with my son who is 26, and his 'dad's car' was a BMW 740

He just remembers the smell of the leather and the fading lights when you close the doors, and the V8 of course

my dads car was a Vauxhall Astra GTE 16v, the one with the digital speedo. though thats about the only thing i can remember about it. he then got a Subaru Impreza WRX in 2000, which he only sold last year! that Impreza made a big impression on a 13 year old me.

i do wonder with this forum, some of the members on here are so old i bet their dads were driving Ford Model Ts! :poke:

When my mum & dad went on honeymoon to Cornwall from Sussex back in 1963 they had an old Austin 7 with a fabric roof.
The roof was torn so before they set off my dad pop-riveted a sheet of thin steel over the top.
He didn't have time to paint it, and apparently it was a scorching September. They nearly cooked themselves. :D

Next week is looking at bond cars. Should be a Z3 and Z8 which would be nice 👍

That may change now. According to BBC web they're planning a tribute to Sabine.

My dads first and only car car was a 1961 Moggy 1000 bought new. I saw a car a few years ago with the Reg DK 49 and couldn't think how I recognised the reg until I found an old photo of me and my dad when I was 7 standing next to his car at the top of Buttertubs Pass where we used to go on our Hols. The reg was DK 49.

Was it the same car or had the reg been transferred?

You must be joking, it's a moggy, they lasted for ever :D

coming from a family of poor Southerners my dad had the use of his boss's car as he couldn't afford one of his own - it was a 1961 Moggy van -in grey - he took his driving test later in life ( late 40's ) after several attempts but I have to say his driving was scary

he did teach me to drive when I was 17 in my first car - an Austin Minivan that cost me £75 - reg was DOG 756 - we used to say we'll take the dog out !

just as an aside my dad was a carpenter and if anyone made any disparaging remarks about his job he always responded with " If it's good enough for Jesus Christ it's good enough for me " - although technically Joseph was the carpenter I believe - anyway my dad wasn't someone you corrected

The reg must have been transferred as it was on a Volvo when I saw it. I think it is on an Audi now. From what I was told plates were used more than once. The original was issued in Dec 1903 till April 1935. It was re issued in April 1961 when my dad had it. I think it denotes it was from the Rochdale area at the time.
Will have to search my old family photos now a see if I can find it.

Caught it tonight. Worth a hour of my life. Now I just need to sell my kids and buy that Alfa. 8) :driving:

Must admit, I found it bloody funny, especially the Bond Chase scenes with Fred as jaws.
Some lovely metal on the program too.

Watched it tonight loved the geriatric Ken block section, thought about putting the earring back in but after over 35 years I think I’ll leave it out

Enjoyed tonights episode, mid life crisis just looking on ebay for a Kawi 1300.I dont even have a bike licence. :D

I've recorded it but not watched it yet.

But I've had a full bike licence since 1976, and had a Kawasaki Z650 in the early 80s - so sort of got half-way to a Z1300!

I have to say that Ive found this series of TG quite entertaining.
The last series was definitely lack lustre and I thought the programme was doomed but Im pleasantly suprised.
