Took my hardtop off and dropped the roof for the first time since I bought it, tried it top down on the way home from work as it was clear but cold, beautiful sunshine but 4/5 degrees.This is why I bought Machine monkeys heated elec seats.

There must be a better way to set the heating tho as even with seats on full,heater on full and a heavy Cleese and hat I was still cold,esp hands (I'm not wearing gloves btw).

Have a mesh wind cover I must fit which might help with breeze blowback .

What heater settings are best ??

I found that wind deflector helps a lot. I have the leather & mesh one. Made a massive difference for me.
If you are driving by yourself, close the air vents on the passanger side. This way you get much mor flow from the driver side.
I usually set it to the vents on the dash on full blow with max temp. It helps if I set them all the way to towards me and all the way down. I found this setting sends the air through my hands and help keep them warm.
I did 1.5 hours of top down driving today at around 6-7degrees. Couldn't keep the top up for the return trip. Still not too bad for winter time! :)
 
I find that a coat with a high collar helps as does a coat with a hood which will bunch up and cut out the draft on your neck and around your shoulders.
I have the heater on full and set it to blow alternatively on feet and then when they are cooked (they tend to get poached) turn the direction to the upper body for a time - when the feet get cold again it gets returned to the feet. Eventually it tends to get left directed at the feet setting with the temp turned down to avoid burning my feet and the speed turned back from full (mostly due to the noise!).

I normally drive in light leather gloves but if my hands do get cold it is possible to direct the hot air flow on your hands when they are at ten to three on the steering wheel using the fin adjustments on the centre and outer vents.

gloves and a neckwarmer are a must for me when its nippy and i keep them in the glovebox... as you mentioned I also direct all the airflow to the footwell which seems to help.. the wind deflector also helps a lot... sadly the blowers aren't as good as the old mr2 i had previously... they were seriously good and you could drive out in sub zero temps roof down and still feel totally tropical
 
2 hours top down driving this afternoon, had the heated seats on and heater blasting but had to turn them both down because it was too warm! Not sure I'd want to try it without the heated seats though!
 
Patience.... summer's coming. Surely no need to endure frozen extremities just for the sake of top-down motoring? :lol:
Easy for me to say when the temp's have been in the mid-30's the last couple of weeks. I'll be the one looking for the first opportunity to get away with the roof down soon enough... :roll:
 
When is down around freezing I wear a hooded sweat shirt, windbreaker over that and gloves. With the heat coming out the vents I find it very comfortable... :driving:
 
Wow I feel like I'm majorly underdressing compared to some of you!

A decent hoodie, heaters to max and recirculate. Mainly aimed at the feet with a some pointed at the windscreen seems to work well for me!
 
70 mile run with Dave and our wives this afternoon to Allendale tea rooms with temp 2.5/3.5.Tops down and no complaints from the wives as heated seats on max,heater to footwell and factory windbreak in place.Wooly hats and thick coats complete the package along with the obligatary scarf.Steady away at 50-60mph on the dirty roads seems to help keep the cold air over the top of our heads. Pity Craig was working and Paul has serious MANFLU so no Steph for photos.
 
I only ever wear my superdry polar windcheater and jeans and never usually feel cold. As said, hands at 9 and 3 and you can direct the air vents on them rather well. Heated seats are a God send!

Slightly off topic, but does anyone get silly comments from people wondering why you have the roof down as it's so cold? They don't seem to realise it's not 1920 and cars do actually come from the factory with heaters and heated seats.
 
Beautiful Day for Driving top down today. Warmed up to 2deg eventually. Gloves and hat where most certainly on.
 
Heated seats are great but about a third of the temp of my e60 seats ??

So recirculate works too, thought there might be a better combo of settings , I'll try that..

Very frustrated by this cold come throat infection - whatever it is :cry: :x We would have loved to join you all today.
As Steph says - there will be other days.
Glad to hear you had a good run out. Can't believe neither of you have a camera - come on lads!! :roll: :D
