Top down driving in rain

Driven in rain for a few times, with windows up and OEM mesh wind deflector in place and haven't got wet (haven't tried it in a full on thunderstorm though).

I have a perspex wind deflector but the wind (and rain) still comes down the middle of the seats and lifts my wifes coat off her legs (which I quite like!) but the tickets and papers flying about the cockpit are a bit much. Anyone find a way of getting rid of this central draught?

I am not convinced by the perspex deflector - I am sure the OEM is mesh for a reason, to let some of the draught that does come in over the top out the back :?

+1, Agree with Bing here, I also believe that the perspex is exacerbating the turbulence by blocking the wind flow - there is still some turbulence in the cabin with the OEM mesh, but not usually enough to get papers flying around or clothes removed. Perhaps a mod would be to get a perspex windbreak and drill some small holes in it (may also stop the reported rattling as well)?

And - when you absolutely have to stop having the electric roof is a big help but is there a speed when it can be lifted and lowered or has the Zed got to be completely stopped?

You have to be stationary for the opening or closing process to start, though you can move off slowly - under 5mph I think - after it has. Without a Gaptech module for one-touch operation driving would be hard whilst having your finger on the button. Guess your passenger could do it for you though...

I can also attest to the GapTech when moving off - have done this a number of times, getting the roof down moving off from traffic lights is pretty cool 8)

My roof is still broken, so I have to be very selective about when I have the roof down. Also not got my Gaptech installed right now as I thought that might be the problem. Very depressing

Most rain is ok. However, when it gets to the point that rain runs along your side windows, and starts creeping inside the car and down the door cards, then it's time to pull over and raise the roof

Ah! So eminently practical. Where's the fun in that? Just don't let electric bits get wet.

While I don't have a deflector, I have a decent understanding of physics. I agree that mesh makes a lot of sense. Without a deflector, there is a lot of directional flow, but relatively little random turbulence. A solid deflector cuts off the flow but introduces much turbulence. Mesh is a happy medium, some flow, some turbulence, but not a lot of either.

I wouldn't worry about others thinking you're mad in the rain
You misunderstand, I rather enjoy being thought mad! What worries me is being thought normal. TBH, I don't seriously care what others think, but I do sometimes find their thinking entertaining.

It is more dangerous to drive in rain than in good weather conditions, but sometimes it is inevitable. All we need to do is be more careful, drive slow and get thing ready. It is also very important to check the car and gear from time to time. Whether it is in rainy or snowy day, you are gonna need the windshield wipers. Make sure the wipers work properly. Of course, you can buy the best wiper blades to install on the windshield so that they last longer. Bosch, Rain X, Michelin, etc, can do. Really lessons in driving in different road conditions now  you having a laugh pretty sure most on this forum don’t need advice on driving in the rain ect we get enough of it in the UK 🇬🇧 let me assure you thanks for your pearls of wisdom :tumbleweed:
