Hi all,

I haven't really got any tools to carry out basic maintenance on the Z, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a basic set? Thinking socket set, tq wrench etc. There's some 50% off offers at Halfords but I'm really hoping for some recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

Ben

I bought my lad the halfords £100 professional set for Christmas. Should have been £200. I think that contains more than enough for most diy jobs. I have had just bought myself the 12 piece ratchet spanner set for £50

On top of the above, suggest also getting a breaker bar or long ratchet/torque wrench. These are needed to remove the wheels and properly torque them up afterwards.

Also recommend axle stands and a proper Jack, once you are happy with working on the car. I guess you couldn't get the wheels off without them though

Agree with the above but make sure you get a low profile jack, about £30 give or take.

Add to that a set of quality screwdrivers (crosshead and flat and you'll have most of what you need.

Lots of nice sets in the Halfords Professional range (£10 - £20)

I've had an enormous amount of use out of a ratchet screwdriver set, its a very cheap way to get a good selection covering the variety of torx, hex and other less common bolts you will need.

Mine's a stanley Here's one, but heres one for a fiver!:

I bought alot of Halfords Advanced stuff over the years and it's excellent quality and seems to be wearing well.

Buy good quality stuff straight away is my advice if your serious about it, the cheap stuff doesn't last as long and you can ruin Nuts, Screws etc easily.

You get what you pay for with tools IMO, buy cheap and you end up buying twice :)

Good Luck

cant go wrong with the halfords professional range, i know lots of people who use them. personally i use Teng tools.

I feel almost jealous. Being able to buy a set of tools without guilt.

May I suggest that you get a comprehensive 3/8 socket set Halfords advanced always get good reviews. Half inch is a bit chunky for a little car like a zed.

If you like spending money then this would be a once in a lifetime purchase.

It will probably go for £200+ but that's a guess.

i can recommend these, only frustration is the lack of an 18mm socket
