Too sunny for the Zed - A new ownership low.

If my old silver hair can handle it, I'm sure the paint can. Just remember to put the hood up when you park, to keep the leather safe.
 
Well this caused quite a stir. Been out today for another lovely drive. Just don't like leaving the car in a busy car park whilst bathing it in nine hours of direct sunshine.

I agree that the car sitting still for hours/days on end baking in the hot sun is not good for paint and trims and will fade the black roofs of any E85 however car covers can prevent this but to say i wouldnt drive it in the sun like the OP is very.......perculiar. :scratchhead:

My garage queen is mint JE & well looked after & maintained... I did 1200miles last year! :rofl:

You'll be running it into the ground doing mileage like that.... I've just had my MOT and, according to the slips, I did 1022 :lol:

I've only had mine 3 weeks and i've already done more miles than that! :driving:
 
Suggest the real issue here is why you are trying to keep it perfect in a universe doomed to death by entropy. These things are designed to be used up in exchange for fun. Work we do on them is a cost benefit equation regarding extension of fun for a monetary and time value, both of those coming back to how much of your life you are prepared to give in work to keep the thing providing fun. I could go on but if it fades, gets dinked and chipped, what does it matter if you are happy?

Young man - No need to be so rude and bear in mind that some of us are still driving Zeds in our seventies and the only stories we might be telling could be of steaming by some young pup who thought he could drive. :wink:

I can understand not wanting to leave it in a busy car park, but not because it's a sunny day. Surely the car park is busy on other days too but you leave it there? :?

Is it really well said?

Your assuming the only "fun" to be had is by driving it.
 
There is enjoyment to be had in other ways,I enjoy cleaning and tinkering with the z4,to the point were my wife would say its too much.
But if ones neurosis of its condition,to the point of not leaving it in the sun.
Then it is out weighing the fun against against the anguish of ownership.
Only my two bits worth,the op can lock is car away for eternty ,he bought it he is free to do as he pleases.
Seems like a strange thing, to shy away from the sun with ones roadster.
As said before its like getting a dog for the walks when your an agrophobic. :?
 
agree with JE appart from the harsh winter months crap... keep it clean and you'll be fine. if it can cope with sun it can cope with a bit of salt rain and snow.... not that we had much of the salt and snow stuff this year.

im stuffed today as my roof is stuck down so tough luck on the sun
 
Anyone who doesn't drive their convertible because of too much sun needs to seriously look at their reasons for owning such a car.
I'm with Adamski; get a coupé :roll:
 
I think there are a few people misinterpreting OP's "dilemma".

It's not the driving that puts him off, but the parking in direct sunlight (bleaches leather / dash, UV damage to paint etc.).

I'm sure he has no problem driving in it.

plus he's probably made this thread for abit of a windup... I'm guessing the sun was too hot for HIM, not through worry of damaging the car. But to be honest this thread is so pointless I'm disappointed in myself for even commenting in here!
