Too Many Tires ..

Well right now I have 3 sets of Rims and Tires for the Zed !
Huh you are thinking ?
Well it happened like this ...
The car came with 18" Bridgestone Run Flats with 30000 kms on them.
Sport Package meant they were staggered sizes.
So there was lots of tread left with an extended warranty on the tires as well.

Everyone here was raving about how bad run flats were and with my 'starburst rims' not really talking to me compared to your 108's ..
Well I went for Tire Rack and ordered up a set for winter driving.
I wasn't really sure how much winter salt abuse I was prepared to inflict upon my Zed, but a set of 17" Moda 14's shod with 225 45 17 Michelin Snows got me jacking and impact driving to my hearts content.
Winter never came over here in the New World. Plus a spotlessly clean and gleaming Zed, tucked away in the garage ...Well would you force that out into a blizzard ?
So no winter plus minimal driving ... Spring came early ..

But on those late February Daze when the sun starts to set later in the day ..
Thoughts of summer rubber came to mind.
All those tales about runflats sucking combined with the disappointment of Starburst wheels ....
Tire Rack seduced me with a staggered set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports shod on Lorenzo 21's ...8" fronts. 9.5" rears !!!
Like I said ..Seduced and powerless !
Rudy had then at my door in 5 days ...

Now it is August ...
Through no fault of my own my son got into Grad School at NYU in New York City.
He gets his apt in Brooklyn on Sept 1.
We also have already confirmed attendance at a wedding in Prince Edward Island on Sept 7..
If you look at a map ..That's alotta miles in a short time frame ..
Although if I survive moving a van load of furniture 800kms from Whitby to Brooklyn ..
And I make the return trip in time to load up the Zed and head out to the East Coast via amazing roads through New England !!!
Well it will be an adventure for sure ..

What's this got to do about 3 sets of tires ?
Well I put the run flats back on. With warranty and run flat capability Im looking at this as insurance during my East Coast tour
The ride might not be as good as the Pilot Super Sports, but at least I will be mobile if poop happens.

Wish me well ..
Lobster is only $2 a pound in Maine, $2.50 in PEI and the PEI Shellfish Festival with the Clam Chowder World Championships stars the week after the wedding ..
All good !

Cheers
John from Whitby

That sounds like a great road trip, congratulations to your sun, what a place/city to study

Have I missed something here.... From your post it looks like you've got an E85 running on 21s!

You've got to show us some photos :D

Congrats on your son's admittance to NYU. I went to school in NYC myself (Bronx) and had a great time - he will love the Washington Square atmosphere. Tell him he must get familiar with McSorley's Ale house on 7th street. Best in the City (since 1854).
I can confirm the $2/lb price on lobster. I just had a colleague return from a trip to New Hampshire, and she came back with the same story. Eat all you can!

Mrlozzer ..
Im driving an 08 3.0si proper roadster.
21's ? ha ha ...
Now that would be something to see.
Wouldn't appeal to me though.
The set of tires I thought I'd use for summer and touring were the Michelin Pilot Super Sports that were very highly rated.
The 18" staggered rims are made by someone called Lorenzo who makes these in China. The model # is 21 !
I think most rims are coming from China now, and like brake rotors, I can find no fault with the quality.

After some mileage on these, I started to get drawn back to the stock set stacked in a lonely corner of the basement.
And with the Fall Tour in mind and Murphy's Law a distinct possibility, probably just as a Bull Moose in the rut wanders out onto the shoulder of the roadway..
Well run flats suddenly became the prudent choice for this adventure.
I'll let you all know how things work out when I return.

Thanks for all the positive feedback on my son's pending Manhattan Adventure with living digs just a tunnel under the river away in Brooklyn.
Actually I couldn't be more proud of him.
