Too good to be true?

Hi all

I'm looking for the following:
- 2013-15 plate
- Either 18i or 20i (it would be remapped anyway)
- Blue or Orange
- M-Sport
- Heated Seats
- Budget: £10-14k

I've found a few over the last month or so but they've quickly been snapped up. Finding this one, it ticks most of the boxes however it's been up for a while and reduced by £100 a few times - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201906068716170

Unfortunately it's based in Glasgow and I live in Kent. I don't mind flying up there but before any commitments are made, I was wondering for the price is it too good to be true? Am I missing something? Reviews of the dealer vary (I believe it's a car supermarket).

Would anyone recommend hiring a pre-purchase inspection mechanic to take a look first?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Doing only 4000 miles a year and I'm not bothered by the iDrive to be honest. I'm coming from a DSG auto Audi TT so looking to go back to a manual.

Well, IMHO, I notice those cars that have I drive /auto/other goodies command a much higher price and seem to shift a lot quicker than those that don’t

I’m now a 5th Dan on atacama yellow versions, and that has been my detailed observation

Maybe only yellow people prefer autos..

No it’s part of the ‘comfort’ pack..you can add aftermarket versions..

To clarify, I assume you just mean the closing of the roof on the key?

Mine is a similar spec, manual, no I-drive, no sat nav. Exactly as I wanted it, no fan of extra gizmos.

Admittedly, folding mirrors would have been useful, but mine opens the roof fine from the key.
It does not close it, neither does it do that sneaky thing where it starts the close operation just enough to access the boot.

I think i'm a bit stuck in the past though, as I always feel more comfortable with the engine running before I operate the roof. Must be a throw back to all my old Escorts and Capris with dodgy alternators and batteries

Correct...

I think anyone who has a Tornado as an avatar is a person from pre fly be wire etc

However I do agree with your mechanical / electrical sympathies as far as roof movements without the engine running.

Maybe my original battery is coming to the end of its life but I’ve found a couple of times the roof refusing to move without the engine running..

So normally I do move it after engine start unless I’ve already had a run and given the battery a good charge..

It does seem like the e89 is very very sensitive to its battery voltage / charge state...

Reminds me of the early DA42 Twinstar crash where the engine ECUs shut the engines mid flight due to voltage rails dropping as the gear retracted..

To be fair, the Tonka was fly by wire, but had mechanical backup to the tailerons.
Had an interesting feature for engine fuel feed though, through the ECUs. Less volts = more fuel. Theory being if the generators failed it would give you a few seconds acceleration to give time to eject.
Kind of made you concentrate doing ground runs though!
