(Too) Easy steering

Hi Lads,

I recently noticed that my steering in sport mode (2003 3.0 Auto) is just too light. I need to make small corrections all the time (feels like the car levitates), and really hard to keep it in the lane. The car behaves like this after a long winter sleep (6 month) in my garage, but only noticable in sport mode, normal mode seems fine. Any idea what needs to be checked?

the Z4 has an issue with tramlining if you have run flat tyres, slightly better if you haven't. Sports mode does make it more twitchy
 
have you checked the basics, ie tyres, tyre pressures and tracking? after that I'd be looking for perished bushings or worn suspension components. if the car is twitchy when driving in a straight line I wouldn't have thought it would be the steering assistance.
 
Your kinda describing no front end grip which can have a number of causes but the whole its OK in normal mode but too light in sport thing sounds a bit odd. It may even be something as simple as the tyres have less grip in cold temps but it's hard to say from the description
 
With the Auto in sport mode, I find the car feels so much more lively and comes alive. Are you sure it's not this that your feeling through the car.
