Tonights top gear

I think the show was good and entertaining. Top Gear is still better than Fifth Gear.

I think both Renault Megane and Ford Focus are just like normal hatchback, only with massive bhp. New 35i also has over 300 bhp and is RWD. :)

They still need to do the Z4 roadster vs coupe around the track - doesn't matter which engine (although it'd have to be a 3.0 or an M), but it would let us know if the extra stiffness makes it faster.

One thing is for sure with this series however - the girls in the background are the best we have had yet

Lol, I agree! There have been some stunners in the background over Hamsters left shoulder. Better than most of the features.

Focus RS - torque steer, predictable, suppose I shouldn't knock it too much without driving one, but...

I think a lot of Z4 owners will be seeing a lot of that rear diffuser on the RS on the road, M or no M!!

RS got nowhere near the Z4M's lap time on the track, 3 seconds slower I think. Still, it's a great car, loads of presence on the road.

I'd like to know why the designer at Porsche only has one design?

I reckon its the "if it aint broke don t fix it" mentality Abso right about the other cars Porsche offer now... The boxster saved them 15 or so years ago and the cayenne and now Panamera are keeping them going,so without them propping the show up there would be no 911 I reckon and no Porsche

Sure - if it ain't broke don't fix it. Porsche is the most profitable car maker in the world and albeit it through dubious stock trading in VW options made IIRC about 6b Euro last financial. Should own VW soon too. Can't be many that would not want that profit stream
Not bad for a single design car maker :)

French Sport-Auto managed 8:10 in the RS at Nurburgring. That's not bad! In the power band the RS has more torque. :driving:

What was the Z4M time?

Z4m time was 1:26

In comparison to the M it has more torque because it has a lower rev range. It has less hp at the end of the day and isn't really any lighter. Don't go racing any or you may end up with a dent in the side door or rear quarter.

The Z4M time on the Top Gear track was pretty impressive. There's not much outside exotica and a few track focused cars that beats it. E92 M3 was quicker though. Hey, and it was the roadster, well known to be much slower that a coupe

:D Nicely said Sammy.

Jeeper - i think your financial data on Porsche is a bit out of date. Right now they're hoping (and praying) that the state of Quatar will spend some it's oil money on a 25% stake in Porsche. This will allow them to continue independently and stop VW and Lower Saxony from flipping the stakes and buying Porsche. The Deutsche Central Bank refused to guarantee any loans to Porsche to cover the swap options that they bought when trying to take over VW and now those real share owners are looking for their money. It's all compounded by in-fighting between the 2 main sections of the Porsche family and they are not allowing their shares to be used as leverage for any deal.

Who knows which way it will go but i suspect that Porsche upset too many powerful Germans with their antics with VW and that they will see the shoe put onto the other foot. Maybe soon we'll see 911s for sale next to Beetles. Back round to their spiritual home! (And i've had 6 911s so far and love every one that's ever been made).

Oh - and Top Gear is often poor, it's just that when they do a good one , it's really good. Personally, the trek across Africa in the Lancia/Vauxhall/Merc was my favourite of all time.

outrun,
I was not trying to write a detailed insight into the Porsche VW fiasco, rather an illustration that a single car (or at least fairly well defined sector) can be hugely successful, which it has been and still is (or at least was until it decided to be a FS player and not car manufacturer).

For sure right now a separate battle wages between rival offers of VW trying for E4b for 49.9% Vs a realistic E7b and as you say a cash injection from Qatar to recover from the E9b hole the gamble and stock market turn has left them in. Seems to me the family are also somewaht interested in saving themselves E1b in tax depending how the deal goes.

I watch this unravel with great interest and the outcome of the July 23rd family/board meeting, not as an owner, but as that not too loved bunch of banking consultants :)

Even though i'm a huge Porsche fan, i hope they get swallowed by VW. They really took the P and exploited Germany's slightly grey trading rules and they've made a big mess all around them. I live in the hope that VW can justify allowing them to make sports cars only (as Bentley makes luxury cars only) and they will be able to fire the designer and drop the Cayenne and Panamera. Don't get me wrong - i think that both are great examples of what's possible but they're also cash pigs and diluting the brand.

We'll see - i watch also with interest.

If only it was my 1% that was pivotal to the outcome..........

Episode 2 with the 'girls'

Actually tho that one behind stephen fry was unbelievably good looking and then clarky shouts a bit at the same one which are now two in the scores bit of the challenge, if that made any sense?

Actually tho the worst thing are the guests, ok schumacher wanted to come and try his fxx so he was the guest, a bit dull but then schumacher never was terribly exciting even after winning his 7th championship, 2nd ep like I said stephen fry talks about the Ifone bit 3rd ep its some unfunny comedian who talks a bit like a nufter then 4th ep its some jamaican runner whos quite happy to live in england but wont represent us?

Tonights 'ladies' werent IMO as hot but sienna miller kind of made up for what was again a pretty poor show by top gear standards, now I dont know but maybe somewhere between the 20th century or the totalest of wipeouts it all just got a bit samey.

I did see some re-runs of fifth gear on dave today so however bad top gear unlucky series number 13 is it could always be worse.
