Coming back from Caernarfon today (not in the zed) on a dual carriageway on the A5 at a place called Nesscliffe (Leesfarm and SocketR will probably know where I mean) husband was driving his car, it was pitch black and we were in the overtaking lane doing about 70. Our son was in his car behind us at a decent distance but travelling the same speed.
We just had headlights on so full sight was about 40 feet in front.
There in front of us in the darkness was a car in the overtaking lane on its side with the underside facing us so it was impossible to see until we were right on top of it. It was just a greyness with nothing reflecting etc.
I shouted, 's**t, what's that?' at the same time as husband saw it. He braked and swerved and I swear to god I don't know how we missed it. If he had been looking at the radio or blinked or whatever in a split second, literally, we would have ploughed straight into it at 70mph.
Our son saw us braking and swerving and he said as we swerved the car in the road was literally right on top of him too. He swerved and just managed to miss it.
I sat stunned for a minute then dialled 999.
We carried on as there was literally nowhere to stop. We saw two police cars tearing up the other side of the road a little bit later.
We've just got back and I rang the garage at the services next to where the car had flipped over but they didn't know if anyone had been hurt.
If nobody ploughed into them it will be a miracle. It was a miracle we didn't and a miracle our son missed it too. I just felt sick to the stomach and the thought of us missing it and then if our son hadn't and seeing it happen in the mirrors....
Tonight obviously wasn't our time to go and I pray the people in the car got out safe and nobody did crash into them before the police got there.
