TomTom doesn't charge

I'm having problems getting power to my TomTom using the cigarette lighter socket. It works fine in other cars, but not my Z4 :(

The cigarette lighter itself works, and I tried a phone charger which worked with a bit of jiggling, but I just can't get the TomTom one to kick in.

Anyone any ideas? Could there be a replacement connector for my TomTom which may work better with the Z4? This is the one it came with:

Got to be something wrong with your set up.

That's the same as mine and it works fine. I also charge my ipod with the same adapter.

If the power socket is live then do you have a break in the adapter wire ?
Or what about the adapter itself is the contact button getting stuck and not coming out far enough to make contact with the socket plate ?

I'm not sure what else it could be do you have a friend with a similar set up you could try.

I tried the adapter in 2 other cars and it worked fine in both of them, so I'm pretty sure that's okay.

I've tried pushing the adapter in the socket further but it seems to be in as far as it can go.

When husband is back I shall happily get the TomTom off him and see it charges in my zed, if that will help ?

That would be great if you could thanks.

So what you're saying is that everything works when used in other combinations
You mention the fag lighter works. Do you smoke? Could it be a build up of tobacco exactly where the tomtom fitting contacts? With the power off try scraping the bottom of the hole with a screwdriver tip.

Nope I don't smoke, just tested it out of curiosity. Can't see anything unusual about the socket, though I do wonder if for some reason the adapter tip isn't touching the base. Can I "bodge" something to extend the contact point?

Just tried a bluetooth gizmo I had in the socket, and that worked although it took a lot of careful jiggling about to get power to it. However I still just can't get the TomTom one to work.

Makes me think something is awry with the physical socket itself?

Sounds like you've found the problem. It shouldn't be an expensive fix to replace the power socket

It works !
Thanks for checking. I'm going to order a different style of charger to see if that works, but if not I'll try replacing the socket as suggested by GrumpyOwl.
