Ok so since having the emmisions light on since the day I bought the car, I managed to use my laptop to turn off the light and clear the codes! Now it's been tuned off lots of times and always comes back on after a while but currently it's off! Now today when I started the car the idel was very bouncy!! Any ideas? I've alread had a cracked Pipe replaced!

I have no idea, but I sympathise, as it's always a bummer when electronicy things get in the way of enjoying the car,

Just before anyone else asks, How bouncy is bouncy?

Thanks :-( its fairly bouncy for a good few mins then after driving for a minute or two it goes away, thinking all this could be down to the MAF sensor

Disconnect the MAF sensor then. If its knackered it should make no difference to the running. All it does it tell the ECU what the air volume currently is, and the ECU then adjusts fuelling accordingly. Usually its pretty binary, i.e. working or not, because the heated element is either contaminated somehow or burnt out.

Well it's only started doing it today and didn't know if it had anything to do with the fact it's roasting outside!!!

Wouldn't have any impact on the MAF sensor unless it had somehow managed to get superhot, but it would take a matter of seconds for airflow to bring it down to operating temp after starting the engine. In fact the adjustments the ECU makes as a result of the MAFs readings against temperature variance (e.g. cooler temp = denser air = more O2 = more burn) are tiny at a steady RPM, its much more relevant when the engines actually working under load.

Its very strange, strated it up this morning and it almost wanted to stall, then it was bouncy again, drive for a few mins then it was fine again! currently no lights on the dash!

Bit of crap from the fuel perhaps? Put in some decent fuel and take it for a good blast up the road.

lol its run on thats Tesco Ultimate stuff always and i do a 40 mile commute everyday where it gets more than an Itallian Tune up most days ;-)

Do you know what the codes were that you cleared since last repair? Also check for stored codes even if the SES light is off, might be some clue there.

Well I'm not sure what the codes are as I just cleared them! I'm also not sure what I'm doing with DIS

Have you tried taking out and cleaning your crank sensors?

I had codes for emissions and all that stuff for weeks till I got fed up. removed the sensors, sprayed the hell out of them with carb cleaner, dried them off with compressed air, pop them back in and voila.
No problems since; car is hugely more feul efficient and drives like a dream.
I have a N52 3.0l but I'm pretty sure they're in the same position on all engines (just below the vanos, you'll have an intake and exhaust one you can see them since they have black leads connected to them)

Dam I wish I was mechanically minded lol

Take a picture of the front of your engine and I'll use my extensive ms paint skills to draw semi straight lines to what I'm referring to.
See if you can get the shot from just behind the radiator.
