Today’s modification

So after pondering about if I should take the plunge and buy the Michelin PS4’s, I put an order in with black circles, which subsequently got messed up twice with the wrong tyres being supplied.

So after cancelling the order, I went and purchased the Goodyear asymmetric 5, in the original 19” size, less the run flat detail. Today they were fitted to the car along with a full alignment.

All I can say is wow!! What a difference a set of rubber can make to the driving experience. Absolutely zero tram lining, much much quieter, and the steering now feels as though it is actually connected to the car. You can drive over uneven roads and not feel like the car is going to shake itself to bits.

I know it has been said before, but the run flats kill the Z4, and anybody considering the change should make it there next mod.

I was able to get a full set of good years fitted for £530, so a bit of a saving against the Michelin. They might not last as long, but only covering around 4000 miles a year tops, they should see me for a couple of years :D

What exact tyres did you fit?
Goodyear Asymmetric 5 ???

I am running Bridgestone Potenza run-flats. Really unsettled ride. Still got a while to go before they need replacing, but I am in the market for a new Z4, so new tyres might be needed.

Hi mate

Yes I fitted the Goodyear asymmetric 5’s. I was going to go for Michelin’s, but thought I would be brave and give these ago.

My original tyres still had a good 4mm all round, but I was getting fed up of the poor driving experience. It had got to the point that if the tyre change didn’t improve things the car was going to go because I personally did not feel safe driving it.

The difference is night and day. No tram lining what so ever, a lot less harsh over uneven ground, and so so much quieter. I can push the car hard now and not feel like I am driving in ice. I have fallen in love with the car again, and will never look back at run flats again. Yes there is the issue now that is I have a blowout it is a recovery job, but that is a price I am willing to pay.

To make things even more tempting, National tyres are now offering 6 months interest free credit on their tyres, so you don’t need to loss goodbye to your hard earned cash in one hit :D

Hi, no need for recovery if you get a puncture - they’re easy enough to fix with rats tails/gloop in a can etc

I carry rats tails and gloop even tho I’ve still got the run flats on - primarily because of my German trips - I can image sorting I front tyre - but a rear wheel puncture would worry me as access is limited and I’ve got some mobility issues.
