today i...

....spent £70 on a replacement xenon ballast. Then, as car is currently un drivable (no headlight, bumper off) decided to do some maintenance on it. Wheels off, clean, tar removed and rim wax applied. Also started to paint the hubs and calipers as they were looking a bit tired

Today I bottled telling off the lardbutt girl and her ginormous hoody wearing boyfriend in this Fiesta for slinging their chip packet out of the window before driving off. It's not like the bin is a long way away... :headbang:

So if any of you live around the Swindon area and know this tub of lard, give her my best wishes with a slap upside the head.

Got taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg from football. Never been in so much pain in all my life, was sat in casualty writing my gold medal acceptance speech for the 2016 paralympics!

Turned out its not broken in the end, there may be a slight hairline fracture/crack - the doctor didn't think so but theyre not sure cos of the swelling.

Been given crutches but i don't really like em, going to Germany on sunday so better be ok by then.

Not sure because of swelling??? How does that stop them interpreting an X ray? Not sure because they need an orthopod to tell them more likely :P
Sounds unlikely to be broken so hopefully it will settle quickly. Don't underestimate a bad ankle sprain though (if that's what it is), it can still take a couple of months to get back to sports. If they gave you a fracture clinic appointment, it's worth keeping it just to get advice from someone with a bit more experience in sports injuries.

Today I decided that with all this talk of failing roof motors, plus the so called summer coming to an end, that checking the roof motor drain would be a good idea. A couple of notes and observations after following shipkillers document:

1) If you don't have some axle stands, don't do this job! Your head, and chest possibly, will be under the car :!:
2) Safety goggles are useful too. The amount of crap that drops down is quite a lot!

The bung is not where I expected it to be, it's quite close to the bodywork of the car. I'd expected to find it behind the access hatch.

Anyway, a few pics you might find useful: (from the phone, so apologies for quality)

You don't need the wheel off, although if you have large hands, you might want to. I didn't but will next time. You will need it jacked up though to have enough room to get a socket on the bolts. A spanner is just too fiddly.
To remove the access cover you undo these three first. The outer two are 8mm, the middle one is 10mm. Just to make life interesting

Then there is a fourth 8mm under the car that is not shown in Shipkillers pdf. It's right inside close to the sill
null-7.jpg

It'll then lift out. If you need any force at all, something isn't right. It sits in a recess in the splash guard mount.

You don't actually need to remove the splashguard. According to Shipkiller's guide there should be two expanding rivots, mine had one and an 8mm bolt. Either there are differences by year of mines been done before and the broken rivot replaced by an 8mm bolt. As the other side had two rivots I'm guessing mine has been done before so  to the previous owner.

There is also a nut similar to the centre one on the access panel in the wheelarch. That's a PITA to get at and almost impossible to see. You'll want a torch and a long extension for your socket. You don't need to remove this one, the splashguard is slotted so loosening it is enough. I couldn't get a decent pic of this.

Here's the rivot I removed. Do be careful, they are easily broken. I had a trim remover tool and this works perfectly. Again, little to no force required :!:

By removing this and loosening the 8mm and hard to reach 10mm you can push the splashguard back towards the centre of the car and then get under and you'll see the bung which just pulls out. If you do decide to remove it, take heed of shipkillers warning about the ABS sensor wire. On mine it is tie-wrapped to the splashguard and if you are ham fisted you will probably do something expensive :!:

The whole thing is a bloody stupid design and I was tempted to leave the bung out as it's well protected and was actually quite clean. There was a little crud in the bung, but otherwise OK. The crud that was in there would have fallen through if no bung had been in place! I ran some water through from the top and all came out OK and cleanish.

...went head to head with a supercharged E46 M3 on a track day (on Friday). There was absolutely nothing in it, despite his car putting out 450bhp with the Stage I ESS setup :) The other guy said afterwards that he was driving it as hard as he could and that he might have been able to creep by on the straights if they had been longer, but couldn't match me in the corners. He was a bit miffed that £10K of mods still only brought his M3 up to Z4M spec :P

Did the DISA upgrade with the kit from USA. All went well, now to leave it 12hrs for the threadlock to cure...

Read Stuart's wee how-to - great job  - wasted on me though as my motor is already dead...

Instead I :

Fitted new side reflectors - what a rubbish design, so much crap gets behind them, needed some no more nails tape to stay flush :x
Fitted a new low tone horn - my car no longer sounds like an irate Nissan Micra...
Fitted a new lower grill that isn't cracked and split, all sits nice and tight now... However my bumper really needs a re-spray :(
Gaffer taped my arch liner, which has developed an additional 'air duct' from rubbing...
Discovered exactly how fecked my fog lights are. Another sh1t design :x
Panicked after putting it all back together when only one headlamp washer worked, then realised it was only because I'd drained the pipes with the bumper off - proper 'oh noooooo' moment though

Didn't break anything unrelated whilst fixing everything else - a real achievement for me

Got my 'new' xenon ballast installed, changed the D2S bulbs (bought them, so might as well, although the originals are still OK and will double as spares), resealed and reinstalled the headlights. Re-fitted the bumper (replaced all the bolts and fixings for new ones, only a few quid from Sopers so seemed cheap not to do so). Result

Then took it for a test drive and got back 3 hours later  Well, needed my 'fix' after being deprived for 2 weeks :D

Wow you have been busy Bing mate  (how long did it take you?)

Far too long Andy, according to SWMBO,

Couple and a half hours, but I did give everything a good clean round the grill.

Came back from goodwood revival and fitted my BMW strut brace

Is it as simple as undoing all the bolts, putting the strut brace ends on and refitting or do you have to secure the suspension? Apologies for the dumb questions, but I have a vision of undoing the bolt and seeing the bodywork part company with the chassis! :o
