To warranty or not

Hi everyone, hope you’re all having a great day?
I’ve had my 3.5i for six months now , I can’t make up my mind if it’s better to save the cash in a car fund
Or get bmw extended warranty? I’ve seen the for and against on here before, but if I give some idea of how I use the car it might make assessment easier for you all . So ,it’s a 13 plate, it’s currently on 52.5 k .... I’ve done 1100 miles in 6 months, probably won’t do 4 k per year . This breaks down to daily drive of about 8 miles. On the way home I try and give it a bit of a blast out by going roads I can hit 70 ,my fun time :D it’s sometimes used at weekends but no major journeys. Usually too busy polishing it  I would appreciate some feedback on this from you guys
Thanks in advance for your input on this
Have a great weekend all

Have you considered Breakdown and Garage Cover by the AA? You get all the benefits of the normal roadside breakdown, recovery etc plus up to £500 of garage bill 3 times per year. Whereas I appreciate that it's a BMW so parts aren't exactly cheap to start with I suppose it's weighing up the pros and cons of paying BMW more than twice the cost and still not using it! Worth a thought.

4k a year in a car with 50k on the clock. Madness to take out insurance on that, IMHO. :o

In all these years there is only one occasion when insurance would have been a nice to have, for me. I shelled out 3.5k for a brand new V6 in my MK1 MondeoSI many moons ago. Thing is, if you can afford to underwright a repair like that your self, then you don't need insurance. If such a sudden bill would cause problems then you need insurance.

Moral of the tale. Always have a few Bob in the piggy bank, if you can.

I have a 3.5is and like you only do a small mileage pa. My BMW extended warranty cost me under £500 for the coming year. Not cheap but in my view worth it for peace of mind. No doubt others will see it differently.

Wondering similar on my recent acquired 35iS, looking at the detail most doesn’t look like much would be covered.
Don’t see roof covers, leaks are not, doubt dampers are, they are wear and tear item. So drive line only cover seems the option. Basically covering the gearbox or engine blowing up or blowing a turbo?

I second that

And, as Corporal Jones would say, I third it.

I have a 35i with 25k on it. I have a full and way better warranty from Warranty Direct which is costing me around £1200 for 3 years!
It even covers items that wear, not just fail.
I had the same cover on my 23i, they paid up in full every time with no hassle.
I had a new flywheel, clutch cover, lambda sensor, full head valve gear rebuild with 24 new lifters (just because one lifter was tapping a bit) a full gearbox strip and inspection for whining noise etc etc etc.

You will need to put a lot of money aside to cover the possible repair costs on a 35i......

Also if you mod your Z4 I suppose it’s not worth the risk of warranty since a lot of modded parts are not covered anyway ? (Alloys, tuned engine, exhaust etc) how do other folks with mods keep their peace of mind? No modded warranty insurance as far as I know?

I’ve got the top BMW warranty (forget the name) mainly to cover roof problems. Isn’t the roof covered?

Also, if the car is remapped I guess they wouldn’t cover engine problems, but would they void the whole warranty?

I am keeping my car as stock as possible to minimise any chance of them refusing claims.

People here have had leaks covered under extended warranty. My car was in dealership under extended warranty last week for an oil leak; they replaced the oil filter housing which they said was cracked and I said to them at the time I was sceptical of their diagnosis. A week later there is still oil on the floor; it is either still leaking (from somewhere) or there is still some run off from the undertray that was soaked. Either way, the car is back in two weeks time when I get off of jollies for further investigation - which I suspect is DCT sump plate leaking. I will report how I go on. Expensive if not covered and I would go to an Indy to have the job done rather than pay BMW rates.

I would advise taking out the full BMW extended warranty.

The full warranty does cover roof issues, I had my roof hydraulic pump replaced, new rear diff, parts of the gearbox and paddle shifters replaced as well as the 24 lifters and that little lot amounted to just over £7000!

No quibble on any of this by Main dealer or insurance underwriters and it continues to give me peace of mind.
