to those who remember me......

I had a E46 M3 with about 90k and never had any issues with it. It drink fuel but that's part of it. Only ever got about 16mpg. The car is soooooo capable it makes it a little pointless on the streets thou. The car covers ground so quickly your be amazed by how many accidents you can have with people pulling out in front of you. One particular day I almost Had 4 separate accidents. I was driving like a tit thou.!!!

Great car but to truly get any real enjoyment without losing your licence it needs to be put on the track. I've found the Z to feel more special than the M. In saying that I think the z4M would be great.

I'm thinking my next car might be a 645 thou, I want to have owned a V8 a one point in my life. Few people on here have had some big bills with the early models which is a little scary.

350z proven classic and it's got an LSD, what's not to like.

So in summary I've been of no help

Left field but what about XKR ,not the sharp handling but brutal acceleration and very reliable especially if get 2001 model or later which doesn't have the issue with plastic tensioners and dodgy water pump .thirsty on the fuel though .stunning looking motor which gets loads of admiring glances .

Was my mates M3 on the commute on a windy B road in Scotland. Often lots of traffic, so was a gentle 50-60mph drive in 6th.

Of course when driven properly....

Just stating the art of the possible

Edit: for what it's worth, it was a sub 100k miles example. Well looked after. And come to think of it, would have been within the OPs budget (just!)

So in summary. Takin into account that with some hard work you CAN find a decent M3 for £7,500.

My firm recommendation is that you get one

I've heard E46 M3s making 28mpg, and that was the SMG model, which I reckon will be less economical
This was one of the things my brother in law preferred with his old manaul E46 M3 versus his current E93 V8 M3 because at least if you want to the E46 M3 will give decent economy whereas the V8 model is always dire on fuel no matter what you do!

Rear sub frame is an issue too so I've heard

I think most had this sorted under warranty, but something worth checking before parting with cash.

well decided not to get another z4 as "been there worn the t shirt" etc, and the fact that the practicality mainly 2 seats was becoming an issue.

So i went for an electric orange 2 door focus st mk2 running around 280bhp with remap and a few mods, dont wanna make this a vs thread because i have to much respect for the z4 but if any of you are interested id like to list the differences of the st good or bad :).

z4 plus points

(1) convertible roof, even tho we dont get much sun over here, when you can enjoy it knocking the roof back is superb.

(2) rwd overall much better at the old traffic light gp

focus st

(1) the sound and power, the sound of the 5cyl and turbo is superb, the shove you get you get in the back when it comes on boost is so addictive, and power wise there was hardly any difference between my focus and a mates 135i one a roll on which i feel is superb. in terms of in gear performance ie roll on, it would slay the 3.0 z4

(2) practicality, big boot and 3 rear seats

(3) fwd better in winter and snow lol.

its orange, tinted rear windows, black wheels, rs diffuser, etc, and to my shock it gets more comments and attention than the z4.

id like to thank you guys for being a more than superb forum while i had the z!

Sounds like you are happy :)
You can post up some pics though , we can take it

aint took any the weather has been a joke :(, just glad to have a car which brings a smile on again, the 7 seater honda shuttle was the lowest and most depressed car (thing) ive ever driven.

to think that most drive these oil burners and sub par cars due to mpg etc is beyond me, id allways rather pay a little extra and have a little more fun :)

Agree a N/A engine does limit what you can do, I loved my old 200sx for its tune ability and its hard to beat the rush of a tuned Turbo engine and the Focus ST engine sounds lovely I think as well 8)

Sounds great I had a Blue ST3 a few years ago now and tweeked it to stage 2 plus and it was a machine, no match for a zed IMO but it was fast in a straight line and practical.

One word of caution though take it easy with planting the throttle in high gears and low revs as the standard clutches are rubbish and don't like a remap at all and will soon start to slip! If it has been upgraded to an RS clutch your fine but if not be careful.

Also get a downpipe and sports CAT on it it pops and bangs even more and that 5 Pot sounds even better :)

Thats good then :)

Go and get stage 3+ fitted now then, it will be an absolute beast then :)

Try a Honda S2000, just as quick as a 3.0i SE Z4 but has an awesome engine that revs to 9k and 240bhp, excellent handling and a gearbox shift that no other car can beat.
