To sell or not to sell??

Apologies for this being my post on the forum (I have used the site for info and knowledge for years but I have never felt that I could add much to the debate).

I have a very similar M coupe to one that has just sold in about 4 days (mine has a few more miles, 65k, and a carbon dash) and after 4 years of ownership I am thinking of selling on this awesome machine. I have a few quid in the bank so feeling the urge for something different. I've thought about a 2011 (ish) M3 but not sure they look special enough.

Just wondered if people had any thoughts on whether it is worth holding onto for a while longer (i do about 7k miles per year) or suggestions for alternatives in the £30 - £35k range.

here are a few pics of my motor (if I can get it to work):

Black with a beige? interior, looks to be in exceptional condition, a very nice motor to keep.
There's always going to be an urge to strive for something better, human nature and only you can decide.

All depends on how you view things with ownership I'd say,,,your cars value will remain pretty consistent in coming years and may even start to appreciate in value at some point,,,if your bored and want a change with 30-35 k then think seriously about what you spend that amount of dosh on or you could take a big hit...if it were me in your position I'd be putting that kind of dosh into a nice 996 Turbo, it's looking like they are on the brink of big appreciation and I doubt you can get anything more exciting for the money...

Cheers I've tried my best to keep it in as good shape as possible. It is not perfect but for 8.5 years old it is pretty good. It's midnight blue and champagne leather...the best colour in my slightly biased opinion :D

I am thinking seriously - I think that is part of the problem! If I was more impulsive I'd have already changed it but trying to weigh up the value for money keeps leading me back to keeping the M...maybe I need to go and test drive a few options...

An E92 M3 is what I am/was also considering. It's a totally different car from the Z4 but if you want something different from the Z4 with lots of high-tech then an M3 is an option. I do personally quite like the idea trying a DTC with EDC - now I'm getting older both are quite appealing :) (full auto if in the mood for it, EDC for comfort damping option). I also quite like the look of the M3, understated. The interior quality at least it on another level than theZ4's although the seats I hear can show signs of wear quite quickly.
I wouldn't consider the M3 as a second car as agree in many ways it's not special enough - 2 seaters more suited.
Reading more into the M3 option there are some who are speculating that in the next year a lot of used M3's will hit the market and therefore 'probably' pushing down prices. The reason for this is about two years ago BMW were running a great 3 year lease deal on them and when that ends many will be returned to the BMW network. However, it's not just about depreciation though is it? If planning to keep a car for quite a while it becomes less important as the depreciation lessens over the years and miles however if could be bought much cheaper in a year that is appealing too.

Owning the Z4 the depreciation should be minimal for you if you decide to keep it.

The DTC is one of the things putting me off the M3. I need to drive one but just worry that it will take away from the driving experience (I'm in my mid 30's so a few more years before pressing a clutch becomes an effort :poke: ) . The manual ones are few and far between. Interesting to hear about the speculation on M3 prices though, something else to add to the quandary!

You definitely need to drive one. I have read of a few who thought that but then fell in love with the DCT box - but others who still preferred manual. Sometiems I think it's more a case of people not wanting something new - stuck in their ways :). DCT cars are faster and more economical. There's no chance of down-shifting into a wrong gear and over-revving on downshifts. On track the times would be faster too for the majority of us who only see a few trackdays a year maximum. Less involving yes but soon adapt to not having to keep moving the left hand :). I've read that the DCT box suits the V8 engine better too, apparently.

I'm not that old either really but can still think there might be times I'd now rather just stick a car in full auto (traffic jams, city driving) if it were possible :)

I'm faced with the same dilema, but without the £35k budget for my next motor

I really want to keep the car, but I rarely use it, as it's not exactly an everyday driver of a car, and attracts way too much attention for the daily shopping runs etc. I've just recently nudged 5,000 miles since I bought it. It's been 15 months, and the first 500 miles was the drive home... so average mileage is 300 miles per month.

I can get a decent 330d or 335d for less money, and the car would be perfectly suited to everyday stuff, and I wouldn't mind ramming on the motorway miles for the mundane stuff, which would give my Mrs car a break.

It's an epic car, and I'm torn. I've not decided yet. Good luck with your decision

Don't be daft you cant sell that, its unique style and performance, together with rarity and probable appreciation is a must keep or regret :headbang: . My opinion anyway.

Unless you're madder than Mick McMad keep it!!! :D

 love it.....maybe I am :(

After 4 years I still love it when I put my foot down and it looks amazing when clean and shiny...still motivated enough to do a good clean every week or so and a deep clean every 6 months.

I think my issue is that I have always kept my cars for 4 years and start saving for the next one as soon as I have bought a new one. I like to have a plan and stick to it but maybe what I need is a new plan rather than a new car!

I'm in the same dilema :| to sell or not to sell
Just can't see what to replace it with.........

It's a lovely looking car... maybe you should have a good test drive of the cars you're thinking of switching to and see if any of them really grab you?
I'm planning on keeping mine for as long as possible/ until circumstances change. If I were looking to change and had extra cash I'd be looking at a 911 (997) but for your budget there's quite a few choices of nice cars about.

I've sort of ruled out 911s as I play golf and no chance of getting my clubs in the boot.

A V8 Vantage might be another option...

If you were going to move to a e90/91 read up on the rod bearings failure, put me off almost as much as IMS and radiator replacements on Porsches, better the  you know
