To sell already ?!

Well at least if you do get tempted tomscott may be interested in your MC!

Wow, that was quick! :o

Good to see it will still belong to someone on here.

..... er not quite

Simon’s just messing / jumping the gun

This week I’ve spent £1740 on it .... I’m balls deep in getting it how I want ... I’m still completely undecided but have time to ponder my decision as my friend will hold the car for me for a while if needed

Also just checked the for sale section .... that’s a nice looking Z4mc at 18.5 k ..... if this is where the markets going I’ll be keeping mine , as it’s just too much money to loose !

I think I’d keep the Z4 and make it something special and enjoy it for longer. I reckon in 2-3 years you’d gain your expenditure back.

You’ll get the porker & it’ll be.... oooooh I need
- £5k new ceramic discs
-£8k carbon fibre Seats
- £10k new lightweight alloy wheels
- £15k sports exhaust
... and then a service light’ll come up, the misses’ll borrow it & curb an alloy

Personally I'd jump into the Porsche, run it for a couple of years, sell it on and come back to a Coupe - you'll have enough cash left from the sale - that box is then ticked. As the OP states, his friend has some serious machinery so it's unlikely the car will want for anything other than tyres and in time, servicing. To certain extent he has peace of mind in buying it as opposed to buying privately or from a dealer.
The fly in the ointment is the sale price for his Coupe, less than 21k then he may as well have throw the money on the fire and as he says, there's a good car at 18.5k still for sale. That said I think his car is a little bit better than most and if you follow his threads you'll see that. It's had all the "good" stuff done to it, valves, vanos, paint, tyres etc etc so should be a car that needs very, very little expenditure - that's what will sell this car above others. When you have the likes of a highly respected member such has Tom Scott showing an interest then you know there's likely to be a very good car there.

The £18.5k car is very nice but if I was looking to buy I'd be leaning towards yours @ £21k with the work you've done. GLWTS if you do decide to sell

Right .......

After a rollercoaster of thoughts on the whole thing I’ve decided not to buy the gt4

I’ve always been brought up with the saying ‘ if you can’t afford it , don’t buy it ‘ and this has served me very very well over the years and probably saved me from lots of worries !

I’ve totted up what I’ve spent on the z4mc since I’ve had it ( a little over 3 months !) and it comes in at over 4K :o

It doesn’t require anything for another 14,400 miles and even then it’s just an oil service .

The Porsche bug has hit hard though and I’ll be looking to sell come the spring/summer ... but if someone wanted it now I’ll be open to a pm , I’ll be looking at 22k firm .

I’ll also be selling the S2k in the summer .

I’ll be looking at a budget of 50k for either a cayman gts or 997 Carrara s

Good move.

The GTS is absolutely brilliant to drive and if it's the 981 it sounds pretty good too (although the PSE is a bit silly).

..... now I just need to stop spending the z4mc

And yes 981

I think you’ve done a superb thing... & now you need a reward!!!!

Go treat yourself to a brand new set (not second hand) of CSL’s with brand new Michelin Cup2... you definitely deserve it... there’s nothing like a new set of boots, just ask your other half ;@)

I would go for the GT4. The motoring press and Chris Harris can't all be wrong. My Cayman S is a wonderful machine but you be hard pressed to find a manual one now in 981 format. I also doubt you will get a GTS for £50K with low miles. (Sub 15k assumed).

I didn't think that the servicing costs were that bad when I spoke to Porsche. It is the same 3.8 engine that is in the 991.1, Carrera S so it should need anything "special". Suspension is from the GT3 but how many miles are you going to put on it before that needs attention?

Z4MCs are not moving at an astonishing pace value wise and don't seem to sell quickly unless they tick all of someone's boxes, from a spec point of view.

Life is too short to have regrets and it isn't anything that can't be sold and get the majority of your money back. I have assumed you would go manual and not PDK as autos are the work of the devil.....
