Ask the garage what failsafe devices the offending lift has and why did they fail? The garage's employees should be even more concerned than you about this. The proprietor is doing all the right things by you because he knows he's in serious trouble one way or another.
 
Jeez is all I say. Nightmare for you and the garage. A serious issue for the garage and if the H & S Executive got to hear about it they would be crawling all over them. A miracle that one of their employees was not killed or seriously hurt.
 
I have noticed your in Nottingham....Not a million miles from me...(about 1 hour away)


If you get the car back within the next couple of days and want an independant full inspection,i will gladly do it for you.

I can do it tommorow or Saturday.....But work is booked in for all next week,so no ramps will be free...

I can't see that the garage can do much more than they are - I mean, if you had a mind to shout at them, they've left you nothing to shout about except the accident itself :idunno:

As for the airbags going off, if it was a vertical drop then the sensors wouldn't have recognised a need to deploy, surely ? And in any case wouldn't the ignition need to be on, or at least someone in the passenger seat, for the airbags to go off ?
 
You're having no luck at all man, that's awful. Puts your coolant leak issue into perspective!

Agree that the lift in no way should have failed. To the point where as part of their insurance the lift needs to be checked regularly so its either been checked badly or not checked at all.

Hope it gets sorted quickly for you mate. Keep the faith and throw the recharge book at them.
 
What a nightmare. I hope you get it sorted out, and hopefully in time to get out on a hoon and remember the best bits about the car.
 
My bottom jaw just hit the deck!! Mate I hope that when they have finished it is absolutely perfect, if not wipe the floor with them.

My thoughts too .... I also have my doubts about the ramp failing ... the more likely scenario is that the car fell off the ramp, imo ... which is not a pretty thought.
 
Pretty hard for a car to fall of a 4 poster lift. I think the ramps go into a safety position preventing it from rolling off.

Looks like the garage is making a good effort to sort it out though.

Old 4 posts ramps just have bar stops at each end of the platform...
The stops get bent over through years of cars driving up against them to get position on the ramp..

If the stops were bent down a car could easily fall over the end of the ramp, creating damage to nose and rear bumper as the tail slides over the end of the platform..

Gutted for you. Man hug your way. No matter the motive on the part of the garage. They do seem to be doing the right thing. How or why the lift failed is moot point now for your car. What matters is the action they are taking to fix the result of the failure. But. Harkening back to the days of President Reagan when he was dealing with the USSR. "trust but verify" Would be my view. So document everything. I would even keep a journal of everything you have heard any of the techs have said. Kudos to Z4M-2006 :thumbsup:

BMW have had it on a jig today, and all is well!

They're going to fix a few things, then stick it back together and get it back to me for about Tuesday :thumbsup:
