To say I'm annoyed is an understatement

I know the feeling, and it's why I put off doing minor repairs until I really need to.

Last one that caught me out was my M5 where I knew the front suspension needed changing and I kept putting the £2.5k bill off. I finally decided to get it done as I was starting to do trackdays again and didn't want dodgy suspension failing with that extra abuse and sort of speeds. Got BMW to replace them and about a month later I swerved to avoid a twunt pulling out in front of me, hit a high kerb and broke my OSF strut and slashed the tyre. Wheel, strangely, was fine.

If I hadn't had the puncture I'd have chased the twunt and forced his insurance detailed out of him, but I couldn't and ended up with a £2k bill for my insurance. :headbang:

In the plus side, you'll have new suspension all round, new exhaust, new/repainted bumpers, etc.

Chassis damage might not be visible to the naked eye - even a few degrees (even a minute) of twist may not be noticeable, so I'd want a full, independent check done.

good call. once it's back together, I will get it trailored to BMW and onto their jig - at the garages expense.

Posted at the same time - didn't realise you'd been doing all that

I would be absolutely livid, was this at a BMW dealer or an Indy. If not a dealer I'd certainly be getting it fully checked by one.

Andi.

it's an Indy - but they are bringing a dealer mech over to go over it.
still, think the idea of taking to the dealer afterwards for a full inspection sounds like a good one

Thats shocking, I would be absolutely gutted. May I also suggest a second MOT get done elsewhere (along with alignment checking if they aren't doing that already)

Wow that sounds horrendous!! I really feel for you.

As said before lucky no one was hurt in the proses!! I am no expert but i would suspect that they might have done something they shouldn't have to the lift. Or obviously is not fit for the job either way they are in the wrong. And maybe that's why they are jumping through hoops. I suspect there is an element of feeling bad and will do anything to put it right. They are obviously not cowboys as they are putting it right.

I would defiantly be wanting a full independent inspection.

Just read the updates, it sounds like they're being brilliant about it TBH. As annoyed as you must be, at least they're being honest, sincere, and realise the level of their f**k up.

Hope it gets properly sorted for you mate.

I say  to that service manager & that organisation - despite what's happened, shows there are proper & decent people out there & they are the ones that deserve our business

totally agree, nice to hear a grage being so upfront and honest, obviously I'm sorry it happened but you couldn't hope for a better service to at least numb the pain!

Although you may want to push to get all the bushes replaced too, as that sort of jolt won't have done them any good!

Maybe the lift is faulty and the safeties never engage - if so they'll be wanting to avoid a huge H&S payout?

I was thinking exactly the same thing about H&S... Whether the ramps were inspected and certified... I remember at my old place of work we had to get all lifting equipment inspected and certified annually for insurance purposes. For the owner to outlay for all the costs up front through insurance that quickly is a little questioning I think....

Anyways, glad they are sorting it either way, that's the main thing!

tbh, I don't care how they are paying for the repairs, as long as they get done.
I'm not fussed about their health and safety etc - I just want Winston fixed at their expense!

Hope it all turns out okay... Good to see they are going to get BMW to check it over too.

Keep an ear out for internal squeaks and rattles afterwards! Never know if any silly little interior clips have busted or come loose but would assume BMW would inspect for this?

Ouch!!

I'm sure its a nightmare for you, but as others have said, it could've been far worse, could easily have killed someone.

hope you get it sorted, and nobody was hurt.

So....

Has the car rolled off the ramp,or has the ramp sunken to the floor at speed ?

If the car has dropped quickly, why has the car got bumper damage ?

If the car has literally fell off the end of the ramp onto the floor from a height of 4ft or so,and the bumper damage has come from hitting the floor and falling off the ramp, then i would be really careful about accepting the car back as "repaired"...

I have no doubt they are doing there best for you...Its an accident and accidents do happen, but be sure your not left out of pocket now or in the future..

sorry to hear mate
if i was you i would get something in writing just in case that in a couple of weeks something comes up and they deny anything happened or say it was fine when it left the garage
just cover your arse
daz

Agreed! Get a statement of the damaged caused, exactly by what, and what was done to rectify it. If they're willing to, I'd also be asking for a statement declaring responsibility for any damage found within a set amount of time afterwards too.

Ouch that's not good, sounds like they need to out that ramp pronto before they have a more serious accident that can't be solved with repairs.

Still at least they seem to be more than apologetic it and willing to make good their cock-up unlike the idiots who trashed one of my alloys changing a tyre who just shrugged and said that Beemer alloys were made of 'monkey metal' so it was to be expected.
Three months of exchanged letters and finally the threat of court action got a cheque out of them but it left a bad taste.

well.. I now have the new shocks fitted, and they're just awaiting the center section of the exhaust.
bumper mounts are broken so its new bumpers, but they are going to fibreglass the mounts back together for now until the new bumpers arrive and are sprayed up. (about Tuesday next week)
found that one of the ball joints had torn, and have replaced that as well.

BMW tech is turning up at 3pm to go over it, so we'll see how that goes.

Balljoints? They're part of the arm aren't they? Or have they just pressed the BJ out and pressed a new one in?

Also, not meaning to be silly picky and just trying to help, but balljoints should be changed in pairs.
