I think the issue is the Z4 Coupe looks very distinctive and most people realise they must be a bit different - there aren't that many of them either.
Whereas most of us on here and similar sites would know you weren't driving Nicole's Clio, same as we could tell a Corsa VXR from one of those body-kitted white 1.2's, most of the general public couldn't spot the difference.
I have always avoided entry-level models (my C-class was a 280, my Leon a Cupra, my diesel 1 series a 123d) but when the entry-level Z4 Coupe has 265 bhp I decided I could live with that, and I haven't been disappointed (glad I didn't try an M though)!
