Tires (USA)

I'm going to need to replace the current set sometime in the next 6 to 12 months. Currently I have the OEM run-flats, but I'm seeing lots of comments that perhaps the regular high performance tires are better and they sure are cheaper.

Understanding that this question will receive a lot of different responses, what's the current favorite for replacement tires on the Z4?

Thanks for your input.

A number of us have used the now discontinued Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s and have been very please with their performance. The replacement for the GS-D3's is the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric which has been getting excellent reviews... :driving:

I am in the same boat as you. I, too, will be replacing the original RFTs and have done some research and questioning other forum members. With the understanding that I rarely drive my Z4 in the winter, but knowing that there may be times that I will, I am opting to purchase the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons. In preparation of doing this, I have purchased the BMW Mobility Kit and will also purchase a tool and jack set. Rather than putting the F1 All Seasons on my current 17 inch rims, I am going to buy 18 inch rims. The Tire Rack will mount the tires on the rims at no cost.

If need be, I can always buy and mount dedicated winter tires on the 17 inch rims. But for now, I am going to go with the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons on 18 inch rims.

Discontinued? I seem em at Tire Rack...well the rears are backorder. I'll shut it now

Monday I'll be putting on the Falken Fk-452's (also highly recommended on this board) and can comment shortly thereafter as I'm probably going to go see what that Valley of Fire is about.

I just recently purchased 2 F1 rear tires from Tire Rack as my rear tires seem to wear out much quicker than the front. :idunno: Anyway I was told they are not being mfg any more and when the current stock is gone that will be it. I believe sp3ctre mentioned that they are on longer available in the UK.

Let us know how the Falkens work out as next time around I will be looking for new tire and will look at all options.

how much do you want to spend... for cheaper...I can recommend Hankook K104 sports, they have similar performance/tire tread wear as Michelin Pilot Sports for Medium price...Goodyear Eagle F1's then for high price...Michelin PS2's

I currently have Eagle F1's cuz i got em for $350 shipped new ;)

I just put Eagle F1's on my wife MB and I love them. I can't wait for my Z to need new tires. A day at the track should take care of that!

When I bought new wheels and tires last month, I bought General Exclaim UHP's from Tire Rack. Performance is up to par with the RFT's but it's been too cold here to really test them out.
@ $83.00 a tire, they are cheap so if they wear out quickly, who cares...

I'm running Kumho Ecsta now.

Had Pilot Sports :| and the OEM crap before them. :x Reports on the Eagle F1's from friends was that they wore out quicker with spirited driving.

Kumho wins, IMHO.

I went with the PS2s and while most complain about the price they are considerably cheaper than the OEM RFTs. I do like the road feel of the PS2s a lot and they aren't wearing down quickly at all right now.

I guess I should mention that this is mostly due to the fact that they are stacked in my storage area while I have winter wheels on right now :D

Good points, I went with the Falkens, partially due to price (and treadwear rating) but mostly due to the BIG O tyres warrenty on the tires (tis really good). Tire rack had nothing on the warrenty (well with the F1's) At any rate I get em installed tommorow....er in 3 hours (I've been up since noon the day prior) so ah I may wanna get some sleep. Reckon I may not get the tires scrubbed in tommorow......

I tried to replace my rear F1's over a year ago. I called goodyear directly at that time and found there were a total of 6 tires in 18in rear size in the usa. I was told by goodyear that because of low sales volume of this size that they did one production run a year. in 2006 it was July. Goodyear tracked down the tires and shipped them to the local goodyear store, this method added $50 per tire.

Great tires but too much drama to get. Guess I'll be on the hunt soon too.
