Tire pressure system hacking/tracking- YIKES!

I just read something that was quite disturbing. From Norton's monthly's Cybercrime News: "Tire pressure system hacking. Researchers from the University of South Carolina and Rutgers University were able to hack into tire pressure monitoring systems. Using readily available equipment and free software, the researchers triggered warning lights and remotely tracked a vehicle through its unique monitoring system." I verified the story at the links below.

Someone please tell me our Z4's do not use wireless montioring in the TPMS.

As far as I know none of the E85s use a wireless monitoring system. They simply use the ABS encoders to monitor relative wheel speeds.

Even if they did use wireless monitoring systems, I hardly find it alarming. So what if a technical person with the right gear can track your car if you're within 120 feet of them?

Errr - how exactly? :? The words 'stability control' are a bit of a giveaway...?

Bit late for Apil 1st methinks.

Mind you, I bet andysat is having palpitations LMAO!
