Tips on using the Gaptech module.

I have one fitted to the car. The three presses for open works (or rather I get right) 80% of the time.

However the 3 presses to close the roof is by hit or miss.

Are there rules on how and when the button presses work?

Yes. 3 opens for open, 2 opens and a close for closed.

Do you have to start the sequence from open if you wish to close or from locked if you wish to open?

Nope, just start the sequence from whatever state and it works every time for me.

I did originally have intermittent success with the comfort opening and closing from inside the car... I re-did all the connectors and now that works every time too.

Might be worth checking for a loose connection?

For opening, try pressing FOUR times... works every time then for me...

Closing, tend to have the engine running as rightly or wrongly feel the motor doesn't strain as much with the alternator giving extra juice...

Well yesterday I figured it out. Obviously whatever is in there is an older GapTech or a different manufacturer entirely.

To open the roof is three opens, to close the roof three closes.

Strange.

So you may not actually have the GapTech module installed?

So it seems. I've never looked.

No matter though, I can now reliably open and close the roof remotely :-)

Oh, were you told that the previous owner had installed a specific 'GapTech' module? If you have one of these then if you remove the ashtray you should see the module, about the size of a small matchbox, and the connecting wiring to the loom.

You're not alone.......I'm probably up to about 80% after a couple of years since install. :(

I just say one thousand, two thousand, three thousand (to myself of course) and press on the 'thousand' and it's never failed to work

I do something similar to this - but one one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand. Works 99 percent of the time. I have more problem with distance from the car. And more than about 6-7m and the success ration drops. Oh, and I find if I press the open button again after the roof starts moving then the roof sometimes stops mid motion... Turning cool into tw@t instantly

Yeah, me to, to close it. It's the timing that is tricky. That said, my pocket managed it the other day when I was washing the car :?

That's bizarre? I used to get it to work by pressing, 2 x open + 1 x close????

Well I've had it working with those button presses too, but only on less than 50% of the attempts.

Then yesterday I operated the roof remotely and I realised that I'd pressed the close button three times by accident. I then successfully operated the roof open-closed-open-closed using the new sequence. This was unheard of before.

This is very weird.

I'm going to have another play....

The Cabrio Module (Rheinhold) works like this - 3 x open to open and 3 x close to close. But apparently (according to Gaptech) they use the 2 x open + 1 x close because it stops the interior sensors etc being disabled...
