As per the title really...
Any tips for silencing various rattles and creaks which appear when the roofs up?

Did a search but can't find anything specific!

Squirt silicon anti squeak spray between surfaces where all the trims meet. Got rid of a lot for me!

My roof lining developed a slight rattle when the car got warm. BMW replaced some retaining clips which sorted it.

If you can locate the squeak there's a tape you can buy to put between the "squeaky" surfaces. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/25mm-x-2m-x-1mm-MultiPurpose-Self-Adhesive-Anti-Squeak-Rattle-Felt-Strip-Tape-/172773826785?epid=5004992191&hash=item283a1f60e1:g:0eMAAOSwY4pZY0m2

Car manufacturers take this annoyance very seriously and even they sometimes resort to tape.

Chasing down a rattle can be a lifetimes work though.......................

Good luck.

Cheers, tape ordered!!

Any tips as to where it's best place and how to remove things?

The arm rest is really creaky, but not from the lid, from the hinge area. Ideally would like to remove it and sort it from underneath!

I had this well annoying rattle from the roof locator and removed the inner plastic part, and now it's got enough movement to no longer rattle and my roof is silent!

I think I'm going to try and find a breakdown showing all the parts around the roof area so that I can try and identify the "rub" points.

Just want to be careful so I don't interfere with the mechanism in any way!

You may find what you're looking for here in terms of parts layout.

Certainly has all of the sensors and microswitches.

Perfect, thanks, very handy info!

My roof gets an annoying rattle when it's hot. I haven't been able to trace it yet. Easiest fix I have found is put the roof down :)

Not for the roof but some other bits to note
  • Seat rollover head cover: This one was obvious once spotted. If you or a passenger push the seat back and it rests against the cover, it creaks like crazy while driving.
  • Wind deflector: I couldn’t find a solution for this apart from removing it entirely. If anyone has found a better fix, I’d love to hear it.
  • Front speaker dash cover: This one took a bit to diagnose the source but was obvious once found. The internal cushioning on mine had disintegrated, the cover rests on the cushioning — easy to spot once you open it up (which is simple to do). I found that placing some Blu Tack worked well as a fix

Yes the sun visor must be the cheapest tacky sun visor on a car. I have wedged all sorts in the mirror gap to try stop it rattling. Latest i poured some two part resin inside blanked mirror off.

And i see someone removed the wedge slot, good idea. Only just again put black tape around the wedge to stop noise.
Pity the hole part wasn't made of rubber.

For the hood - Silicon spray on all metal joints and gummy pledge on all rubbers. Mine squeaked alot when the hood was up although very rare I used when up - but now not a sound!!

Again silicon on plastic in the joints and gummy pledge on all rubbers.
