TIP TOP Battery Care

As many of you guys n Gals out there know the Zed is very sensitive to battery condition, if it gets low in charge the car starts shutting one or two things down to conserve energy for essential components and bringing up fault codes on the dash, For people like me who have a pride and joy Zed 100% for pleasure they just go out when weather conditions are dry and favourable possibly with just 20-30 mile short runs at times and slowly bring down the battery energy supply. So once every couple of weeks or so I connect car to an optimate type battery charger which de-sulphates and keeps battery in tip top condition, always connecting to terminals under the bonnet and not to the battery at rear of car. For you guys that use there Zeds for daily commute and pleasure during winter months with wipers, heater blowers, de-misters, lights and audio all running off alternator theres not going to be much generated energy left over to top up the battery. Usually when I connect charger in the evening ,lights on charger are showing green as in fully charged in the morning.
Hope this tip will be useful. Cheers Baz

This topic as been covered before. I can't recall but there were many debates on connecting the charger direct to the battery or whether to connect under the bonnet. Personally I leave the charger connected direct to the battery

Hi Taz guess yours is personal choice were as I chose what it says in my car manual so as not to encourage adverse comment. I was hoping mainly to highlight the occasional use of a battery charger in the first instance. Baz

The connections under the bonnet are supressed so there is no chance of spiking the electronics.
I'm not suggesting this would happen just explaining why they are there and why BMW advise using them. :)

Thanks Dav now that is constructive comment and in my mind very important. cheers Baz
