Tinting clear rear lights question

I'm thinking of getting a full set of clear lights (rear lights, 3rd brake light and side indicators)but have a couple of questions on tinting the rears to get the 4 clear spot finish.
When I've masked off the indicators, does the rest have to be keyed up before I spray the red tint or can I spray straight onto the smooth plastic?
Next question
When I've put the red tint on will spraying clear lacquer from a can give a good enough finish or is it best to get them done by a pro to get a smooth glossy finish?

Spray the tint straight on mate. Also do the lacquer yourself. If you don't apply it, the tint will fade very quickly.

Done mine 3 times now. Finally got a decent finish.

Is one can of tint enough for both lights, or best getting 2?

I got 2 and did about 5 light coats on each. Came out lovely.
