Tinted Headlights!

Now some may love, some mate hate. First they are legal, so thats out the way :D And not being able to find any 2006+ headlights i was thinking what low cost solution i could do until i can find a set of clears, as i hate the orange and i think it ruins the front. And cutting the headlight apart is a maybe, but seen this done and thought it looked good.

The tint is designed solely for tinting lights, so is a heavy duty tint film that lets 95% or more of the original light through. Light smoke looks good, but does not hide the orange at all, so went for medium tint which looks quite a lot darker in the photo's. The headlight inside is still clearly visable, but the orange has been de-tangoed a tad :D I think it looks mean now, and with my black grills that should be here on Friday hopefully, think it will look sweet!

Think it my iphone with this new HDR thing, seems to make everything black ultra black! Like the lower grill.

Anyone at pod take a look, they do look nice :D
 
i think the test will be how the headlights perform in the dark,couldn't you just run a strip around the bottom to mask the tango?
 
That was the first thought, but if you look at the headlight, the indicator is about 10mm behind the headlight cover. So if you put the film up to the indicator, when you look down you would see the orange still. And if you tinted it further up, it would look strange.

So for me that would drive me mad, so had to be the whole headlight or nothing.

Out of interest, where did you get the film/how much did it cost?

The headlights are far too dim to be of any use anyway, so why the hell not? :poke:
 
It was Southcoast tints who did it, as i have tinted lots of stuff, but wanted them spot on TBH.

And etedlm the headlights perform equally as bad with the tint :rofl:
 
Even if they are legal, they aren't gonna let much more than 50% of the light through! Bad idea imo, especially with winter round the corener :(
 
looks great on your car - I think it's because you have the Z4M bumper - your black grilles should set it off nicely. If you didn't have the bumper from the M, I don't think the look would work, but as it stands currently, I like it :thumbsup:
 
that looks good :thumbsup: much cheaper option than facelift lights and if its legal like you say then great! have you got any more info on the tint used? is it just a film you can buy or is it more of a professional job?
 
Its lamin-x tint film that they use. Have a look at their website http://www.lamin-x.co.uk/gallery/gunsmoke.htm and its the gun smoke that ive got. TBH seeing it now i would have the light tint on clear lense headlights for sure :D
 
Looks a touch too dark.

Would a solution where you have a strip covering just the indicators then a full cover over the whole headlight at a lesser tint to make it less obvious work? So essentially two layers where the indicators are and one subtle layer over the rest (if that makes sense) :? :D
 
£80 for both. Which im sure when i booked it ages ago was £60 :o But still happy as the film is about £20 ish, and i would have ballsed it with the curves on the headlights :lol:
 
Im sorry but i think youre very mistaken regarding the light transmission! There is absolutely no way that is letting 95% through! Window tint is window tint, no matter what marketing blurb they put on it. Ive seen plenty of modified cars with tints, and that looks like at least a 50-75% VLT film. But if you find it safe at night, i suppose thats fine!
 
Hmmm I'm undecided on that, think I would be running the headlights on all the time as it looks much better that way I reckon. As a stopgap on the way to the ridiculously priced clear lights then got to be worth eighty quid.

Do you reckon you'll get stopped by the traffic cops?
