Tinkling noise during acceleration?

I seem to be getting a tinkling noise which sounds like it's coming from the back of the car at low engine speeds

Any ideas what it could be?

check one of your rear springs isn't broken if it's a metal tinkling sound, seems a very common problem.

Heat shields loose, rear springs, exhaust back boxes failing, that's the common stuff at the back.. Pinking would be usually under hard acceleration and Obviously from the front.

Pinking is highly unlikely in this day and age.

Its basically fuel pre-igniting because the timings out (too advanced).....if thats happening then your ECU (which these days obviates this phenomenon) is bolloxed and you have a very expensive problem on your hands.

Is it only when pressing the accelerator? I think its the fuel pump. Both Z4's I've had do it, its like a metallic swirl noise.

had it on my 2.5si before the head was replaced.

Ummm, just a question, but can we post sound clips on the forum?
Just thinking, it would be very useful.
Excuse me if it's a dumb question.

plus a how-to for dummies like me, obviously!

What was causing it? I dont see how a knackered head could advance the ignition timing?

*BUMP*

Or is it the driver tinkling? Incontinence, perhaps?

I've no idea and the head replacement was due to HVA's, but it never seemed to do it after the head was replaced.

I thought this was going to be a thread about nervous passengers...
Never mind nervous passengers, the poor OP must be p**ing himself! So far he needs a new head, engine management unit, VANOS and assorted heat shields! :)

I'd get a friendly local or indi to stick it on a ramp for an opinion and save the fretting .
