Timing tool + Hydraulic lifters

Hi All

Anybody any idea where the cheapest place to get the TIming tool for the N52 engine?

Also looking for Hydraulic Valve lifters

Also i'm after some kind of manual, haynes or CD etc? any ideas?

BMW TIS = Haynes Manual. Get it on fleabay for about a fiver.

There are companies that hire out timing tools. Should be easy to find online. Don't think the N52 is a nice engine to work on though.

No idea on hardware, sorry.

AFAIK the only printed manuals available do not cover facelift models and the N52. Your only recourse is the BMW TIS. There are bootleg copies available on fleabay. You can preview a Russian version online at tis.bmwcats.com.

I's been into BMW to be diagnosed and went in and checked Vanos, and everything head related and ended on a compression test finding number 1 cylinder is 100% no compression so are saying it's almost certainly burnt or bent valve.

whilst i'm there i want to change the HVA's as i'm getting the tapping every other day or so for around 30 mins. i'm told the Vanos is bang on and i've already fitted new solonoids.

So looks like head off job so i need the timing tool and HVA's and i'll look at valves when the heads off

Fleabay will do nicely, I really don't care where it comes from as long as i have 1 :) I was pretty sure i got 1 but now i cant remember if that was the last car or not lol

Email sent to a company that hires timing tools

Just need to find somewhere to buy the HVA's ??? anybody know where the best place might be?

Pictures of a bent or burnt valve would be interesting to see, I'm guessing burnt rather than bent, has your car got high mileage ?
 
the cars done 90k miles

i'm still guessing hydraulic lifter myself as it's intermittent when i drive it and a burnt or bent valve would be constant. It only "Hunts" on tickover but drives great once it's moving. BMW could only get it to missfire constantly throughout the entire diagnosis and when i picked it up it was aweful for about 15 miles then all cleared up again other than tickover

Ahh that makes sense, thought it was constant, Check the valves for leakage when you have the head off they might be leaking slightly now due to being open during combustion . I'm sure you would anyway, someone who is willing to take the head off usually knows what they're doing !
