Time wasting sellers

Honestly you find a lovely car, close to you, message the seller but their response are so lukewarm , you then contact them again trying to get information about the car, try arranging a suitable time to view but again you get none committed responses.

You then take the approach that they might be busy so ask them for a suitable time and day, again a none committal response.

Im trying to buy the bloody car of you that you're advertising for sale( not on this forum btw).

:soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox:
I gave up. It seemed odd. Rant over.

Perhaps they love it that much they can’t bring themselves to part with it

Had this with our last daily, it was like swimming in treacle, trying to get a response.

Maybe the OH made them advertise it, but they really don't want to.

lol you could be right it was like trying extract information from a teenager who was in a strop.

It's a very odd state of affairs, isn't it? Brief answers, unanswered questions, blurry pictures...just save us all the hassle and don't advertise it in the first place :headbang:

I recently sold my motorbike to a lad who lived 350 miles away. He asked questions, I answered them honestly and in full, with a few additional pics to help him appreciate the condition. When he arrived, he said that I was the only person who really bothered answering his questions. That's all it took. If you want to sell something - sell it :)

I think some sellers are just too stupid to sell, the worlds getting weird. Maybe its time to go electric.

You probably hit the nail on the head here, tragic as that may be.

I think that’s going to cost a bit more than an e85

I'm currently trying to buy an intercooler locally and am finding it difficult to give them my money. Why do they make it so hard? And this is a business, not some ebay/online auction seller....

Reading this made me check my OH hadn’t put mine for sale without me knowing

Strangely the first person who called on every car I think I’ve ever had ended up buying it.

IMO once the fish is in the pipe, I chat to them as if I was buying the car myself. If they’ve bothered to call, it’s likely you’ve done enough already to make them want your car, u just need to convince them it’s not a lemon... so then I go through all the checks I’d do, both in paperwork & the car itself... that technique IMO & experience has put me in good stead

there is definitely an art to selling successfully.
i buy and sell a few watches, and its all about making whatever your selling look like its something a buyer would like to own.
i see some terrible pictures on car ads with no effort or thought whatsoever.
whenever i have sold one of my watches, they have usually sold on the first day.
with a car ad, no one is excited by a picture of your car parked in front of your garage, or beside the garden wall.
if your selling your z, your selling a dream, a fun car that people want to imagine is theres.
make your pictures exciting, so the potential buyer is thinking wow rather than oh ok its another car.....
obviously the right description helps, but you can always use the pros ads for pointers on that.

consider the most successful sales strategy of all time - ‘SELL ME THIS PEN’

In this strategy when the person’s dealing with u 1:1, achieving the sale INITIALLY has nothing to do with (a) who you are (b) what you’re selling (c) it’s features.

It’s finding out what’s most important to them, then to build a link to what you have...

Whilst a beauty parade works to get their attention ... it’s a bit like picking up women & how this strategy was developed ... find out what’s important to them & make them realise u have oodles of it & job done

Nothing for sale on the forum that interests you?
Some great cars for sale here but we all have requirements, usage factors and budgets .
why not try a wanted post with your requirements, you never know, someone may be thinking about putting their car up for sale.

They probably don't really want to sell but perhaps circumstances dictate they have no choice. I remember feeling like that when selling the Z3 that I withdrew it from sale a few times as kept chaging my mind  Also plausable the seller has been messed around alot or keeps getting silly offers. Had loads of those when trying to sell the Z3, absolutely stupid offers with some people becoming aggressive when you turned them down. Don't think I will ever sell a car privately again, just too much strife.

Tim.
