Time to start the Seat install - UPDATE PICS ADDED

How did I forget ... The weight saving is biblical. Easily 40kg dropped.

I'd also like to thank ed who's been going through this with me .

Congrats, looks a tidy install!
You've pushed me into doing something about my seat height, it's too low and I'm a bit compromised by that in all honesty. Unfortunately the tall side mounts you linked to won't fit my b6s, I'm going to give them a call next week...
Enjoy your trackday :)

thanks Tom its a very clean install, you actually saved me a WHOLE heap of money as i had no clue how low these are, even with all this hardware its still pretty low but soooo right.... im officially IN the car, its an amazing feeling, i feel so connected. To recap - ive got the planted seat brackets ( everyone complains how tall they are  ) ive got the sliders PLUS the TB3 tall mounts from tillet, you could consider getting the planted mounts as they are right up off the floor, these will bring you around 3.5 UP. They are abit of a faff and will definitely require drilling to get right but as your more than aware these seat installs require lots of fettling to get it right.

ill be removing the drivers seat tomorrow to have another go at getting it slightly closer to the tunnel with a very very slight twist to get that pedal reach right. changing gear in this car has never felt so good, i absolutely love them, its a shame to cover them but they are way too slippy. the pads should be arriving soon. I'm so pleased with how the b5 hold you and still very drivable on a day to day basis, i feel they are the perfect size for the z4 cabin. i simply could not believe the weight of the stock seat... unreal.

with the seat is out tomorrow i'm tempted to try them on the level setting, but i know this will impact leg support. im current top at the front and one down at the back. Looking forward to the first track day soon.

ok these are finally finished and lined up properly, total ball ache to get right and in the end the only way to get them properly lined up to the Nth degree is to literally cheese grater the base plate, ( ill be keeping an eye on as safety is primary), now need to get the pads fitted and ENJOY! The seat is now perfectly lined up with the wheel and centered to the roll hoops too ( ocd overload ) , its set to its highest setting now which i prefer but most of all with the seat set back i can now left foot brake again, went for a spirted drive today and fell in love with this car all over. The interior feels really special and the driving position is so RACE mode, very happy.

next up..... full body detail and PPF coverage... then back into the parts fitting.

Good work on the seat install Byron, sounds like it's been quite the faff but well worth it in the end! I'd be keen to try your seat position at some point, just to see if raising it higher than my mounts will permit increases effective leg support. It's a difficult one, I love being low because I feel so much more 'in' the car, but I do want to find a more optimal position where the seat isn't either angled too far backward, or too upright at the expense of leg support.

Have you booked on any trackdays yet? Keep me posted when you've booked a few in!

then back into the parts fitting.

Lets see those Apex wheels :D

they havent even been shipped as yet as i changed finishes and specs and they werent available unfortunately.... However im considering jumping ship into some BBS E88 commissioned which i think would fit the car better as they look more BMW.

nice install mate

So now you know the meaning of having to make custom tools for seat install.. lololol.. Mine are nearly on the floor, due to the roll bar 2" rule clearance for helmet. When will you get your seat cushions? (though there aint much cushion on em :) love the CF, that looks wicked. :driving:

Lovely install that!!!

A proper seat makes such a big difference to the Z4M experience - really pleased that you’re happy after all the faffing! Enjoy! :driving:

Be good to have an update on coding out the passenger seat for the airbag light and seatbelt warning if you get chance please - I use an emulator in mine which seems to be still working OK… :?

thankyou, can you link the emulator you used as the one ive picked up listed for the z4m has the wrong plug, unless they want you to cut the plug off the seat and solder together maybe?

I’ve sent you a link via PM…

As I recall, I soldered mine into the relevant wires on the existing plug…

Ok buddy that's all I needed to know... I'll cut the wire off the stock piece and solder plus heat shrink. Then reset the airbag light. Bingo. Outside of the light I'm over the moon with this final install.

No worries - if you check out my build thread:

https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=77724&start=30

Page 3, you’ll see what I did with pics. You may be able to see which wires do what as well but Photobucket is being rubbish as usual maybe you can’t see that pic in detail.

If you’re struggling, let me know and I’ll try and dig out the original picture.

thanks buddy, now i get it... i don't want to cut the cars loom, so ill cut the plug off the seat and solder the wire to the emulator, this way it just plugs into the cars wiring and if i ever sell the seats the new owner can simply put a new plug on. its frustrating that these kits are sold for the z4m and the plug doesn't work.

ok , ive finished this part of the upgrades to the car.

ive now turned the airbag light off which was really bugging me! i used an emulator neatly wrapped in oem style bmw covering with soldered connections to an OEM plug, so the wiring loom in the car is perfectly untouched. I then used 3m sticky pads to stick it atop of the seat mounts. its kinda cool because i can see all the electrics under the seats through the harness cut outs... im such a geek as i love stuff like this  So now the airbag light properly goes off with the ignition checks. The oem clean level of finish / quality is paramount to me.

i did a good two hour drive this AM from 6 and i'm just so pleased with how its all come together. ive got the seat set to its highest which is still much lower than the stock seat will go but i can see perfectly and im very comfortable with the height, but with the slightly more BTCC style reclined position the b5 puts you in makes a difference to this car i simply could not imagine. comfort is hugely increased, two hours this morning was a breeze, the gear selector is literally at your hands and the pedal interaction is now the best its ever been as the front of the seat kicks up leaving a control i simply did not have with the stock units, its right up their with the very best driving positions ive experienced and of course the seats FEEL so special and have lifted a timeless BUT drab cabin to something pretty special. This thing on a backroad is just downright rude and not particularly safe with the power, ill get the car back to the weight bridge shortly.

Last thing is the seat pads which arrive when they arrive .... for now, im really enjoying tinkering again. Next up..... Rims  then recover from bankruptcy and go again
