Time to say hi!

Hi everyone!

I bought my 2003 Z4 3.0i a week ago today and joined the forum straight away-happy to say it's been smiles on both fronts! Am loving the Zed-it's a fantastic car to drive & seem to be finding every excuse to pop down the shops or pick the Mrs up just to be able to bury the throttle. I'm keen on keeping it as OEM as possible but the 2 mods I've done since owning it have been the sound generator mod...he he he-god that noise makes me grin like a loony :D The other mod was a bottle of Zymol leather cleaner to get rid of 12 years worth of previous owners greasy hand sweat off my steering wheel. I'm by no means OCD but you should've seen the filth on the terry towel when I was done :o

I'm based in Twickenham but have strong connections with Kent still & would like to pop along to any meets/cruises in either Kent or Surrey-seems like plenty of Z4 owners in both places!

I'm attaching photos (if I've mastered Photobucket correctly) and the spec list cos I know you guys love it! The car is pretty fully specced so I've got more bits n bobs on it than the 07 320d I chopped in for it-can't get enough of the electric folding wing mirrors: simple things please simple minds eh? :D

Great forum by the way, from what I've seen so far everyone seems friendly and like minded so thanks for having me onboard!

You joined the Forum straight after buying your Zed, you wrote an informative first post and you included pics!!

You get my newbie of the year award and I hope other newbies will aspire to the standard you have set.

You are most welcome.

Enjoy :driving:

Welcome to the Forum, great looking Zed.

Re your steering wheel - Swiftly put me onto 'magic sponges' (cost very little on ebay - come in packs) with a little water to dampen one you can really clean up the leather wheel (I was amazed how much muck came off) and get it back to a lovely rubbery feel - I do mine regularly as I like the look and feel of it matt - a bit of leather treatment from time to time keeps it in top condition.

Hi all,
Thanks for the warm welcome and the kind words: feeling chuffed for all the nominations! After 2 weeks of ownership I have to say the smile has not left my face-I find myself peering through the the shutters to have a quick peek at the Zed as its parked on the road-just to make sure it's ok...and still there. I've been getting used to its idiosyncrasies and how it likes to be driven and my impression is it likes going fast and holds the road like its on rails. The sound generator mod only amplifies the pure driving pleasure!

The down side is that as I've been learning about the good bits I've also become tuned in to the bits that need some attention. It had a couple of advisories on the MOT that will need attention: play in the n/s/f ball joint, n/s/f track rod needs attention and n/s/f&r tyres worn on the inner edge-no guesses which way it wants to go when I let go of the steering wheel! However, as a poverty stricken (mature) student I have to put up with these niggles till I get my maintenance loan haha!! Not sure it was intended for that but seeing as it's a loan and not a grant I shall spend it on my means of getting to uni-that counts right?

Other than leaning left, there are a couple of creaking noises one of which was the roof when folded down but if you press it down it locks into the catch between the seats and it stops creaking. The front brake discs are scored and pitted and squeek so they will need replacing too although I'm reluctant to pay a garage to do that when I'm capable of doing it myself....just waiting on that maintenance loan again!!

So it's with a dab of oppo and caution on the brakes that I'm making the most of this glorious weather and my new toy!! Again, thanks for making me feel very welcome-great to be here!!

Felix.
